    01-04 Z06 Corvettes

Have seen some decent examples out there for a pretty fair price lately and it has my wheels turning...

I know 01's are 20hp less than the 02-04's but are there any other major differences specific to the desired years?

Any major recalls or common problems that one should be away of?

In today's world it is nothing to get 100,000 miles out of a car, but would you consider buying one with higher mileage... say 75,000+?

What are the best bolt-on mods for these cars?

    Any other insight on these???

I am looking at one with 115k miles on it. I have over 130k miles on my ta and still running strong. So te miles dont bother me at all.
Best bolt ons are Full exhaust, cai, and tune.. Then of course you get into the short throw and adj slave. There are little things that can be made to the car but not necessarily needed. The zo6 is very stout and very well rounded.

some yrs I believe had issues with the abs computer...expensive fix..(shouldn't be surprising...it's a corvette and gets corvette prices on parts too)

I think the 05+ Z51 vette handles as well or better than an c5 zo6...i'm sure the stats are readily available online

the 2001 has a different cam, and different heads. that's what makes the horsepower difference, personally I love top out driving, so i got the targa coupe, put the z06 goodies from various C6z's on my car, springs, swaybars, the brake ducts... sure it weighs just a little bit more but it is more aerodynamic. the gearing in the trans is a bit different, but i paid less for the car and got the removable roof.

i wouldn't be afraid of anything more than 150K on an LS1. but ti's the other parts that go bad.

The 05 C6 has a different and more brittle rear end. and all sorts of electronic gadgetry. but has better stablity and traction control. my electronic granny gets shut off because it flings you around in the car if you slide a little which i don't usually do, but i've had it toss me into the opposite lane on an interstate and leave me setting in an intersection before.

headers, XS power long tubes, not the BEST power, but half the price of the best and your losing maybe 5-7 HP. set of bullett mufflers welded in for exhaust and you golden.

A good intake, halltech, or vararam. if you don't have it an LS6 intake on the car get one,

is a cam bolt on in your opinion? is an A&A vortech supershcarger bolt on :) ... bottom line, heads cam, headers and you can run with a stock C6z06. which is high 11's.

my brother has a 00 FRC, has about 104k?

honestly best bang for buck we did was gears, i set the 410s up in his car with harden driver side output shaft, C6z06 clutch packs in diff. and DTE brace. with ls7 clutch setup we have about 200 passes running 11.4 at PRP.

Like stated would do headers, have installed the XS power ones on a c6 but wasn't too happy with the fit so i will still say KOOKS or ARH headers.

With lsx stuff wouldn't be afraid to run a large cam in it. with vettes i am not crazy about forced induction as these cars make great power NA and maintain reliability.

Granted with the vettes they have their quirks, see if the key lockout has been bypassed, i know dealers were doing a recall for a while. but cheap fix now that aftermarket got ahold of it.

if looking at Z06 try to get 02 and up, at least have the better intake, heads so all really need to do is add your cam of choice. With headers and stock Titanium exhaust i think is one of the best sounding vettes out there.
If any other questions let me know have done a lot to the vettes.

I found an '01 with 160K for eight grand (light hit front and rear, bags good) last week. Car was gone in a day. I am likely going to pick one up in a couple months, and I will specifically be looking for a stupid high mileage car for cheap, so the miles don't bother me one bit. I will take 200K highway miles over 75K beaten Pittsburgh miles any day.

Cam is correct... the LS6 had the same 243 casting heads every year tho.

02-04 also had a less restrictive exhaust and lighter valve train.

all things being equal - mileage, condition, bone stock or similar mods... how much more is an 02-04 worth compared to an 01? I didn't realize all of the differences between them, I thought it was mainly just the exhaust.

I am looking at an 02 with 115k miles with mild bolt-ons and CCW classics but in perfect condition, in Florida for 17.5.... But recently just found another 02 bone stock for 22k with 58k miles on it..

I was kinda thinking along the lines of someone above... You can get a high mileage (70-80K) c6 in the 05-07 year range for probably around the same price as a c5z... I see them consistently in the super low 20's ... I think you'll have just as good or better performance and have the better looks as well (thats objective tho) .... The 05's have their quirks but often u can find them with all the quirks fixed, which is what I did.. the price of some of the high mileage c6's was so cheap, I nearly went after a couple different ones, but decided to spend more $ to get low miles, widebody, and mods..

There's actually a yellow one here in Pittsburgh with 62K on it... Exhaust only, but fully loaded inside for 23K...

However, if ur looking to spend less money, I also would go along the lines of what Steve said above... A reg c5 has the removeable roof, and you can get them DIRT cheap, already modded to death... I was never a fan of the FRC look, so other than the prestige of the Z06 badge, the c5z's didn't really do it for me as well as the regular coupes..

Appreciate all the insight... I have looked at a few base C5's because you really can pick them up for next to nothing anymore, but I have always wanted a "Z".

here's one i just saw popped up in Pgh... there aren't many Z06's with 100K miles on them, so its probably tough to find comparables, but this might be a good price.... as stated before, if the car is in good condition and was taken care of, i wouldn't worry about the mileage
