    HID info needed!

Anyone out there ever install HID's on any of their rides? The install isn't what worries me, it's the quality of kit. I've heard alot of horror story's about some of the ebay kits.

Does anyone know what brand/s of lights are good? They're going into an 02 F-150. I'd like to go with 8k or 10k for a blue look.

I have had kits from hidguy and ddmtunnng, The hidguy failed after about a year, the control box for the high/low switch burnt up. It was basicly same price to buy a new kit from ddm as it was to return the kit to Hidguy.

The ddm kit is holding up and was cheap.

Go with 5 or 6k, 8 or 10 would be purple going on pink.

Another vote for DDM Tuning, they are cheap and always fire. In my opinion, their colors are the nicest out of all the kits I've seen.

I have a set of 6K, 35 watts in my VW.

I agree. seem bright with a nice shade of color. Your color is actually what I'm looking for.

Did you just buy bulbs and nothing else? Looks like theres an option to buy a few acc. with the bulbs...I don't know if the ballasts come with the bulbs.

That was the next question I was going to ask. Are high beams really needed after the kit is installed? They seem to be really bright!

Yea, color is important. You want a little to give that HID look but not too much to compromise visibility. 6K's fit that bill well.

When you buy the DDM kit, it comes with the ballasts, wires, and bulbs. That's all you'll need unless you have to modify a bracket or dust caps. I had to modify both on my VW but it was a very simple task. I bought the slim ballast kit and the ballast are actually incredibly small and can fit almost anywhere.

I too have two separate bulbs, one for high and one for low. I did HID's on low's only just because it's not great to run them on the highs because of the on/off nature of high beams. A repetitive fire/heat up cycle on HID's that you would get on high beams are not good for them.

Plus, like you mentioned, the low's are pretty bright. Mine are in projector lenses so the cut-off and aim is still like a low beam so I'll occasionally use my regular high beams when I need to see a little further down the road.

Have recommended and installed DDM's on a few cars around here but have read horror stories about recent quality/customer service with them. I went with a more expensive option for my G8, the Morimoto 3Five 5000k from theretrofitsource.com. Customer service was great and these kits are said to be the best on the market aside from OEM stuff.

The price includes a very high quality dual relay harness too.

That VW install was a pain in the ass. lol.

As steiny stated, everything you need comes with the kit. You wont need any of the additional accessories they have listed there. No modifications will be necessary either. I bought 8k for my dads F150, 6k for the mustang n 5k for the honda. I like 6k the best. As far as needing high beams, you don't need them because the low beams are bright enough and when you put on the high beams, they don't shine any further down the road then the low beams. I bought my dad the high/low kit anyways only because I wasnt sure if having high beams was an inspection item.

The 6k color temp has always been my preference. I have three sets of HID's currently on my 09 Ram (hi-beam, low-beam and fogs). They are great to see at night. It looks like the lights of Las Vegas going down the road!
