Exclamation What is a low-mileage, mostly unmolested '93 Cobra really worth?

This ad got me thinking: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/2813817330.html

This ^^^ actual ^^^ car sold (or was traded in?) about a year and a half ago for $12,500. Laz2447? was the member.

There's another one on PGH/CL right now for $21,000. black, lower mileage, all original. no mods whatsoever.

KBB says Retail on a '93 Cobra is $10,xxx and Private Party is $8,5xx.

    We all know that's unrealistic.

What I want to know is do you guys think this car will be a true "collector's" car since we're coming up on 20 years? I mean, in another 10 or 20 years, will these cars bring $50-$100K at Barret-Jackson or whoever will be auctioning them off in 2023/2033?

I don't want you guys to tell me I can build a 87-93 notch up to 500hp and look way better for less than $10K. I know that.

I'm looking for what some of you believe the current value is of a true '93 Cobra in excellent condition.

Thanks for taking this trip with me.

I'm just not into the whole old car being worth more money thing. Maybe $4,000.

i would say a true 93 cobra is worth right around 12-15G...pending on mileage and condition....i understands "its just a 90s car" however think for the future...these cars arnt going to be around like the 60-70s cars....some parts of a fox you cant find...and yes you can do a mailorder muscle car but what fun is that

It is truly worth Wifey shipping your ass to the couch if you buy it! Beyond that, I do not see it ever being worth much more than any other Fox in similar condition.

I feel the same way you guys do, but it is real. I mean watch those crazy auctions. I know there's an a$$ for every seat, but if you got an original z/28 or challenger hemi or something along those lines... those pull some serious dough and they made more than 4,993 of them. Just sayin'. no way, I would/could ever keep a car 20 years and find out. hahaha

Wifey knows her place around here, bro!!! I keep her stocked up on over-priced purses and copious amounts of red wine and everything is cool.

I don't ever see those cars going to 50k IMO.....not quite rare/desireable enough

    93R...probably

In general, I would also not expect any car from the 80's on up to ever be worth as much as the 60's and 70's muscle...different cars, different era's...the newer ones don't have the "mystique" now and won't in 20 yrs from now either.

Quoted for truth, this man knows how it works! The phrase "you gotta pay to play" applies to more than car parts... Gotta keep the women distracted from how much you're really spending on cars :D

I bet in time it wont be unrealistic to see 30k out of a low mileage clean one.

i believe thse cars will be like the 60s n 70s at some point down the road...u figure the 60s n 70s u can buy new out of a catalog now and the ones are original are rust buckets and even the base models are bringing some decent money....so id say the cobras will be worth something and these GTs n LXs are are getting harder n harder to find clean and unmolested...ya know

Not all 60-70s cars are rust buckets. My chevelle only has rust on the exhaust pipes and the drums that I replaced with discs. Soon the exhaust will go.

I think these cars (93 Cobras and similar cars) will go up in price. It's about waiting til the guys are old enough and rich enough and then want to re-live their youth. I'm thinking 30+ years is a good starting point.

There will be some kid who was 14 or 15 in 1993....who is stuffed with cash in 2023...and want to blow some of it on a cool car from his youth.

The other thing is...the car needs to be a 100 point show car to get the kind of cash you see at Barrett-Jackson. They don't sell junk....heck, they don't even sell cars that A quality....they need to be A+.

who the hell puts a fram oil filter on a car like this? Problem with buying a car like that is I would never drive it, just tuck it away...after I put a motorcraft filter on it, Lol.

Top quality '93 Cobras belong in the $15k - $20k+ range, and in the future could go much higher. Reason being that they were a limited production run ( 5100, which includes the 107 R-models ), and most of those were driven. You won't be able to find many in showroom condition with super low miles. If you want one that is perfect, you are going to have to pay for it.

Sure, you'll be able to find some in the $10k-$14k range, but those will have more miles on them.

Even though they are very similar to a garden-variety GT or LX 5.0, the Cobras had all the neat factory stuff that set them apart. To me the biggest part of that is the very clean factory styling compared to the bulky-looking GT wing / ground effects.
2014 GT Premium - Sterling Gray Metallic - MT82 - Track Pack - Glass Roof - Recaro seats - Spoiler delete
12.76 @ 114.04 bone stock. Koni yellow coil-overs, BMR watts, LCA and LCA relo brackets, Borla S-type axle back.

1966 Coupe - 331 stroker - Bullet custom roller cam - cam and motor installed and dyno tuned by Rodeheavers Hot Rod - Astro A5 - McLeod RXT - 486 to the wheels - more fun than my little tires can handle

1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - currently NOT on jackstands
