Ohhhhh....so you are replacing your "timing chain and gears". I see. I must ask, what was the reason for doing such a job? Cam swap? These dont usually go bad and when it does, there is more than just that going on. If you just wanted a new set, its a waste. But the distributer does not have to come out for this job.

Not being a dick, just helping out. The TFI should point roughly at 5:00 once the dist is installed.....with the crank on the "zero" mark and on TDC. Then the car will start. If it does not start, you are out 180*. Make sure the rotor is pointing at number 1 on the cap.

I replaced my intake manifold and exhaust and I was running the car with just headers. And threw the timing out so when I tried to adjust it didn't seem right. So i took off the cover and the chain was really loose so I'm hoping that's all it is

Negative. A double roller timing chain does not just jump out of time. Did you verify the marks before you took it apart? A chain to jump is physically impossible unless you have serious failure...i.e.broken chain or split block.

Thats fine. Atleast you can admit it. Mosty knuckleheads slide a cam in and call themselves an engine builder.

What aspect of that post do you not get? Ill explain it for you a little easier.

When I say verify the marks, I mean, did you turn the crank over till the marks lined up to see if they were in time. This should have been done prior to removing the set anyways. If the dots matched, you shouldnt have pulled it off. Actually, I always set the balancer mark on the zero mark on the tab before taking anything apart. Then you could have looked at the top and bottom gear after you pulled the cover off....which is a pain in the ass with the oil pan in place...

Read my public info...right under my screen name...Carnegie. That should be a requirement for members but some choose to not fill that stuff in.
