TTK53 and I decided to swap rear axles since this is my DD and his car is more drag oriented and he likes the peace of mind knowing he won’t be breaking any half-shafts. I like the huge improvement in ride quality and tracking over road imperfections.
This swap is pretty well documented on the interwebz so I’ll keep it short.
For this swap into an SN95 chassis and doing it on the cheap:
1.) Swap pinion flanges (use a new nut or your old one with red loctite and peen it to the pinion shaft)
2.) You have to drop the fuel tank to drill the holes described in step 3
3.) You have to drill 4 new holes into the bottom of the rear frame rail for the rear IRS mtg bracket
4.) You have to cut a couple holes in the trunk to access the new bolts in the frame rail (Do not run the bolts into the trunk…the sheetmetal is very thin)
5.) You have to move/modify the existing brake hose mtg brackets to clear the upper arm
5.) Buy/install 2 rear exhaust hangers for 99+ GT/Cobra to support exhaust tips
7.) Swap ABS sensor wires
8.) Take all the slack out of the e-brake cables so they are long enough
I won’t bother with any details on the front as it’s a nut and bolt job…
Car now has:
Front and rear cobra brakes
04 cobra IRS
Front cobra a-arms
Cut 600lb/in cobra springs with bilstein dampers
Solid steering rack bushings
03 cobra OEM catback but it’s too quiet…will need to change
Rolling stock is 245/45/17 Hankook Evo Ventus 12
Two more things to do:
Steeda Subframe connectors
Steeda bumpsteer tie rod ends to correct the horrendous bumpsteer lowered mustangs get
Everyone likes pics:
In hindsight the only thing I would do different next time is purchase IRS specific brakes lines, and modify the factory hard lines with a new 3-way manifold and brake line.
