Question Looking for pistol input ...

I'm in the market for a full size pistol to replace my Glock 27 which use to be my conceal carry weapon but is now my side arm around camp and during hunting season. I like the size of the subcompacts but I want it's replacement to be more accurate at distance so I can actually enjoy target shooting. I'm trying to stay away from 1911's, 9mm's and compact. It's very difficult narrowing down my search because there's just some many nice guns out there today! Does anyone have any recommendations?

Tough to beat a 1911 if you are looking for a target pistol. Here is one of my personal favorites:

Is the price of ammunition a factor?

I really like the feel of the Smith & Wesson M&P pistols. The are technically a compact pistol meaning the barrel is approximately 4". The ones I have shot have been good target guns. They have adjustable backstraps for different size hands as well. Im fan of the 357 SIG caliber as well. 9mm bullet stuffed into a 40 S&W case. Its a hot round. This is the duty round for the secret service.

If you want something full size and better accuracy then id say go with the Springfield Armory XDM pistol in 40 S&W caliber. Full size with a match grade barrel. Excellent shooters and have a very nice feel.

Just my 2 cents but then again I have fired over 2 thousand firearms in the past 4 years working as a ballistics expert.

10mm for killing stuff is awesome.

as for accuracy the most accurate glock i ever had was a glock 30, followed closely by a glock 31 in 357 sig.

S&W M&P isoneof my favorites, it fits me very well as does the beretta 92. ( i have big hands) glocks point funny for me, but bottom line is anything with a mild trigger job that fits you hand will be what suits you best.

you can keep your 27 and use a longer magazine on it... the thing that hinders glock performance are the sights, a set of warren tactical sighs, or heinie sights will greatly improve your sighting, that and a trigger job and your good to go.

if staying glock advantage arms makes a 22 kit.. which is all you need for plinking, and teaches you trigger control very cheap.

as for the size of the gun the butt is the hard thing to hide. i always thought a glock 19 grip with a 34 slide would be perfect :)

I think I need to visit Aces to compare XDM,M&P and Glock.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Put the Sig 220 into your list of pistols to look at then too. One of the most accurate .45 right out of the box you can buy for a "normal" production gun that is not a highly custom pieces. I own the Sig 220, Glock 21 and the M&P and the Sig will outshoot the others any day of the week. It is much more balanced and the trigger is superior to any of the others. I've shot the XD's and they are nice, but personally, I'd take a Glock over them any day of the week. As shooters, the Glock and M&P's are on equal playing fields IMO.

First off there are 2 glock 21's one is a big boys gun, with a large frame grip the other is the 21 SF i think they call it, it's got a grip about the size of a glock 22, for little handed people.

the glock 33 or even a 32 bbl ( which sticks out a bit) is also a good idea. you can even use 32 magazines with a 2 finger extension. a Barsto barrel or other with greater accuracy potential may also be an option for you if just changing a barrel.

I like the sigs a lot and they are very accurate. as for the XD they are kind of small and i find at times i don't activate the grip safety in them properly. just the way i grip the gun with 2 hands on it.. that and the fact that dryfiring them beats the crap out of the roll pin in the slide making it a wear part. they are also the most difficult of the plastic pistols to work on and reassemble

If you love 1911's you'll appreciate this.

My dad picked this up in December ... took a year to get it. I have to say it makes my Kimber look like dog dirt and man is this thing accurate!
