    how to check oil pressure

ok either my oil gauge is messed up or i have a pressure problem. my gauge flux's sometimes... high-low-normal.

how can i test my oil pressure to verify it is a gauge problem?

its actually better for the pressure to move alogn with rpms.

to test it you would need another gauge

never knew that...yea it dropped to the a-l in normal the other day after coming off the interstate to a light at end of exit ramp. did that twice....then tonight i was [cough]racing a Z[cough] and saw it climb up a little and thought i had a problem.

Get a good manual gauge (autometer) and hook it up. The sending unit is by the oil filter. My old Capri (with 175k) would make 65-70 psi cold at idle and once it warmed up about 25psi at idle. Hot it would make 55 psi at 6000 rpm. Factory gauges suck.

mine always read above normal. when it was at normal knew it was time to change the oil. . Think i had more money in oil changes than the entire purchase price.

FORD ANALOG GAUGES are known for not being the greatest. But it doesnt take long to check pressure so if you have a doubt, check it.

When installing an oil pressure gauge should you purge all air from the line running to the gauge?

Got the air out of the line just hooked it up and started the car. If it is a oil gauge your installing pemenatly the plastic line dont pass tech at any of the tracks.
