    Check your bolts

I missed this last saterday at track. I only caught it when taking slicks off and putting street tires back on. Normally I look at stuff like this when putting slicks on. Also found the LCA bolt at axle on passenger side loose as I could spin the washer by hand. Makes my wonder about the slight clunk I had between gears on the street when shifting. Thought rear was ready for a rebuild but possibly moving on LCA at shift instead.

I also know exactly where it came off. I was on the PA Turnpike heading to Monroeville, PA heading to track. Half way there I remember hearing something get kicked up and hit wheel well hard. I didn't notice anything on road but assumed it was a stone. Guess I was wrong.

That was likely the scariest moment I had ... When I broke the front lower control arm bolt, the only thing that kept it from coming out was the muffler.

I now go over all of my rear suspension frequently.

    Glad you found it Ed

Just got done replacing them with 9/16 x 5" grade 8 bolts, washer, split lock washer and lock nut. The one missing the nut was slightly bent but lucky for me didn't require anything more than a few light taps to get it out of arm. Replaced other side too. Now have about 5/8"-3/4" thread past nut.

Time to beat on it some more tommorrow :D

Someone has an issue with their car that could have been worse but fortunately nothing happens and all you're concerned about is "defending" prp?

This thread isn't about PRP. Its about someone getting lucky. Let the PRP BS go for a change.

#1 - Ed/Ares is my friend. I was with him in the pits when he discovered the problem.

#2 - I didn't bring PRP into this, Viper Ed did. I stand by statement that no track would have caught this.

How did I bring PRP in to this? It was not ever mentioned what track he was even at. If tracks want to have inspection procedures, they should at a minimum check the obvious, linke the bolts that hold the drivetrain and suspension to the body. I don't care whos dick you are stroking, you can not argue this point unless you have no common sense at all.

Glad to hear nothing bad happened. And that's a really good tip. About 10 years ago, after working on my '66 I was out for a shake-down run on the parkway about 2 miles from my house. Nothing crazy - just got it up to highway speed. And all of a sudden....ping...ping...what the heck is that sound? I look out the driver's window and see something shiny bouncing down the road...and along the jersey barrier. By now I was coasting along trying to diagnose what it was bouncing past me. Then I realized...those were my lug nuts!!! Talk about a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach. I counted 3 nuts bouncing past me, but when I pulled over I only had one lug nut left on my driver's rear wheel - and it was not even finger tight. I took 2 lug nuts off of other wheels and put them on the offending wheel. I'm usually crazy-anal about lug nuts. To this day I don't know how I missed torquing them down. It sure is nice to be lucky once in a while...
