    This weekends project

Rebuild the rear but hey least I didn't actually break the housing this time :D

New set of 4.10 gears, Ford doesn't seem to sell the 4.30 anymore but I'm also looking ahead for the blower. That and there really wasn't much difference over performance between 4.10 and 4.30 gears. Slightly better pickup in 1/8 but was negligible overall. New set of Timken bearing for pinion and spool.

    Yes I said spool

Strange spool and Billet C-clip elims with brake bracket.

    Sweet Ed!

Clean out the tubes and the pocket under the pinion real well after carnage.

I noticed the same on FMS 4.30 when I was looking at a gear change. You can always go 4.56 / 4.88 and go up to 28" tires ;)

That's a great avatar shot. I love the way your car squats coming off the line.

It actually doesn't squat. With setup it moves maybe 1/2" at most in rear but front comes all the way up with suspension fully dropped.

Last heater core I did resulted in a welded/smoothed engine bay and a lengthened and hidden harness. :D

Got the c-clip elims today and they are pretty nice pieces. Two piece with brake bracket and then the bearing retainer. Multiple seals, gasket from bracket to housing end, seal in bracket that seats in a "wedding ring" which gets pressed on axle after elims, o-ring seal between bracket and elim, bearing retainer with Timken roller bearings and another seal.

Problem is Summit reboxed this kit and must have had their blinders on as the driver side brake bracket seal is beat the F and back. Not sure what happened to it and it's an odd seal that no parts stores seem to have available. SKF CR-21069 seal

Seal is not torn but the metal is all messed up and I will need to spend some quality time trying to get the metal face straight enough again. I'll order a new one but this one will have to work for now. Easy enough to replace once together. Could change in less than 5 minutes once rear all together.

Not great pic as phone keeps saving stuff small as a thumbnail crap

Keeping this sucker as a trophy :D

I can't say I don't try and kill it every launch. Cleaned pinion off today and got a closer look at it. Every single tooth was cracked with those on either side of broken one ready to break off. Got new gear set setup as close as I could but needed a thinner pinion shim. Had to use a .010" when ideally a .007" would have been better. Backlash is little tighter but had my fill of the shim game. Was shooting for .008" got .0075", should break in to where I want. Quiet as possibly be under load and very very slight whine on decel but solid bushing may make it more obvious than if I had rubber bushing in suspension.

Upon closer inspection that's good carnage :) Got to love doing what is needed to get whatever it's got ;)

A question (or two) for you related to the 4.30 combo. What is your 1st gear ratio? What was your finish line RPM on 26" tires? Debating on bumping gear on mine.

Hmm I think I have my 4th shift light setting(use it just for this purpose at traps) set to 6400rpm and it comes on just prior to hitting the traps. 1st gear is 3.37
