    Dodge ram help

Ok, i am working on a 1997 ram 1500 with a 318, i replaced timing cover gasket and water pump, while i was in there, the chain was super sloppy, so i replaced it, it runs like CRAP, According to what ive been researching, is that you have to adjust it on PCM level. like a tune, Anyone here able to do that??

no, thats what i thought, i had it apart 5 times, its dead nutz on the marks, its factory set tho, and any variance throws it off, it has to be adjusted thru the pcm, just didnt know if any of the tuners can adjust it, or it has to go to the dealer
    JUNK IT!

Ignition timing is controlled by PCM. It is non-adjustable. DO NOT attempt to adjust ignition timing by rotating distributor.
If distributor is rotated, fuel system synchronization will be changed. If distributor is removed and rotated, check fuel system synchronization.

Fuel system synchronization is controlled by position of the distributor. Rotating of distributor will change fuel system synchronization. Fuel system synchronization should be checked any time distributor is removed or rotated.
    1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver’s side of instrument panel, to the left of the steering column.
    2. Using scan tool manufacturer’s instructions, access SET SYNC display on scan tool. Following scan tool displays, start engine. With engine running, if scan tool displays IN RANGE along with 0 degree, this indicates correct distributor location. The degree reading displayed on scan tool indicates the fuel synchronization, not ignition timing.
    3. If scan tool display is correct, shut engine off. Remove scan tool. If scan tool does not display IN RANGE along with 0 degree, go to next step.
    4. If scan tool displays a plus (+) or minus (-) sign next to the degree number, and/or the degree number displayed is not zero, loosen but DO NOT remove distributor hold-down bolt.
    5. Rotate distributor until scan tool displays IN RANGE. Continue to rotate distributor until a reading as close as possible to 0 degree is obtained. Tighten distributor to hold-down bolt to16 ft #s. Might be able to get a scan tool from a local auto parts store??? Could try to continue to bump the distributor until the engine smooths out?
