Doesn't look good for a long-term deal for Wallace

I thought the Steelers might go this route.

    http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/...ntract-646510/

If Sanders can step up this year, I think he'll get a deal with us next year. And even if Wallace signs the 1-year tender and plays this year he could be the odd man out next year.

Quite a shame. Wallace could have been a god around here ( and a well-paid God at that ).

There's no doubt in my mind this Brown signing was a message. Last summer Woodley, Timmons and Polamalu signed extensions and not a single one was announced in a press conference like Brown today.

Sooner or later Wallace will need to let some air out of his head, swallow his pride and report. The longer he waits the worse it gets for him. if the Steelers truly believe he won't be here beyond this year they probably could care less if he sits all season. Perhaps a call from Willie Westshoe and Booger Smoot will return Wallace's head to normal size.

As you guys stated, his pride is an issue. But on another aspect, if he was as good as he thinks and claims he is, then why didn't any other teams offer him the money he thinks he is worth? Simply put, he's an extremely fast receiver and hard to cover, but he can't run routes to save his life. He's just starting to learn how to break his routes off and learning new aspects in being an actual "receiver" and not a deep threat. Granted he can run some routes well, not saying he's completely untalented at it, I'm just saying, Brown is a far better route runner than Wallace at this point in time..

I wonder how much better he'll look if he had a QB that could actually lead him instead of coming back for every pass. He may just get more attention.

Can't figure this guy out. He knows he has no leverage at all in this deal. Nobody wanted to give up a 1st round draft pick for him. Then he is offered a 5 year / $50 million deal from the Steelers. He turns that down and decides not to report to camp. It is obvious that he has not done ANY homework on how the Steelers deal with their players. You report to camp or negotiations are cut off. Period.

Even if he does end up signing the tender offer, he might have burned the bridge with the fans enough to get booed.

Exactly what I was thinking. Pittsburgh is definitely not the town you want to burn your bridges with your fans.

Not sure who his agent is, but he is definitely getting some bad advice...

I've heard rumors that Wallace isn't listening to his agent. I wonder what the real story is.

If Wallace wants to stay a Steeler.

    A. Report to camp
    B. Sign the Tender
    C. Steelers will then begin talking to his agent again.

He will only annoy them in the long run and they will cut his tender to minimum. Otherwise there is the door.

They got rid of Hines cus he was wasting money and roster space.

Wallace is not going to get Larry Fitz money, but he will get a label of being hardheaded and that's going to affect him with whatever team he plays for. Don't know if there is a happy ending to this story.

I wonder if Hines would come back cheap... Probably not - I think it is best if he stays retired - but you wonder if this might be talked about...

You have a better chance of seeing Plaxico back with Steelers first.

Tis reminds me of that other cocky bastard, Sean Jackson, from the Eagles. When he finally did make it to the field he was not worth a shit!

Plax might be a good fit. Just write it in his contract that he isn't allowed to own or carry a gun...

I'm sure Ben would love Plax as a big target down the field. Plax used to come into my Dad's beer distributor, and let me tell ya - the guy is HUGE! 6'5" with the wingspan of a 747.

Football is filled with drama anymore. Like that fighting between the players in practice the other day. My least favorite of the 3 major sports in the city for sure.
