    Question Collectible Car registration

I am going to be buying an 03 Cobra this week. I was thinking about registering it as a collectible car. It is mildly modified and has a clean title. It wont be my daily driver, so I want to save on insurance and I want to be emissions exempt, which I know I wont drive it enough to have it tested as a normal registered car. Anyone have experience with collectible car registration for a modified "regular" car? I already visited the dmv site and am aware of the usage restrictions, just need to hear about actual experiences. Thanks.

You can get the insurance for it no issues, but car has to be 15 yrs old in pa for a classic license plate.

I was going to look them up. I thought I had read somewhere that somebody had their 03/04 Cobra insured through them for like 300 bucks a year.

Well PA also has collectible registration for all cars, but there are restrictions, like having to be modified or rebuilt/kit car. The use restrictions are similar to that of a classic car.

I dont think an 03/04 Cobra would be as high as 300 though. I insured a 57 T bird worth much more than Termie and it was about 300 a year.

Thanks, how's the car been for you? If I would have thought that I would be back in a Cobra, I would have kept that fuel door. If you ever get tired of it, I would buy it back from you. Also, I still got to get you that original trunk blue oval.

Thanks to everyone else for providing input. Keep em coming if you can, gonna get insurance set up and the car registered Tuesday.

Screw Hagerty! They absolutely boned my Dad on a claim for a tow. He broke down along the parkway outbound coming down Greentree hill on the way home from the Pgh Vintage Grand Prix. It was getting dark and traffic was really bad and ripping past where the car died. It was a very dangerous spot. My Dad was with buddies in 2 other classic cars, who also pulled over to help. One of the other guys just so happened to see his buddy's flatbed drive past in the other direction - empty. They called him immediately and luckily he was able to turn around and was back to my Dad's car in less than 5 minutes. All went well - the Avanti got pulled up onto the flatbed, and $80 later ( which is a very fair amount for a 15 mile flatbed tow ) and the car was dropped off at the local restoration shop near our house. Long story short, Hagerty denied to pay the tow bill, on the grounds that my Dad didn't calll Hagerty's 1-800 number to report the incident before getting towed. It was ridiculous. Our insurance agent tried to reason with Hagerty, and even took the call 2 or 3 levels up their management chain. They didn't care that a $40k antique car and its owner was in danger broken down alongside a dark and very busy highway. In the end, our agent completely dropped Hagerty - moving all his antique and classic car owning customers ( myself included ) to another company called Infinity. And our rates came down about 33% from Hagerty.

    So there is my $.02

^This was my concern with a company like hargerty, they advertise on all the auto tv shows, so I kinda wondered if they were all about the money or if they really cared about the customer.

This is who I have my 2003 Cobra, 1997 GT, and my 1968 Fairlane through. Iv never had to claim an accident or anything, but they will insure just about anything. Highly modified or stock, doesnt matter. There is a 5,000 mileage limit per year which non of my cars will ever see. Much cheaper than even going with classic plates through a normal insurance company.

So you don't have to send pictures for classic car plates anymore? Do you have to get classic vehicles inspected? Just curious, I've been holding off on registering my truck because I heard they're very picky with the pictures and my truck doesn't look all that stock.
