    Question T-5 Synchros?

So a few weeks ago I couldn't get my car into gear on my way back from the Wexford cruise. When I finally got it to go into gear it would grind going into 3rd & 4th. I thought it may be the self adjusting quadrant so last night I installed the Steeda kit (billet quadrant, adjustable cable & firewall adjuster). No change! :( So I'm thinking it's the synchros in the trans. Have any of you experienced similar issues? I'm thinking my T-5 has finally had enough...

    My setup:

    87 GT
    T-5 World Class from a 93 GT
    Ford Motorsport (now Racing) clutch
Motor is pretty much stock aside from the typical bolt-ons (headers, exhaust, gears, ram air, underdrive pulleys, timing, etc.)

Clutch adjustment. Too much free play. Or the clutch had welded itself to the flywheel. Either way it isn't disengaging.

Thanks Wick. I tried a range of adjustments at the firewall and that didn't seem to help. So you're pretty confident that it's in the clutch and not the trans?

I would say so, yes. Check the fork.

    Ok Thanks!

Sorry for the dumb question but what specifically should I look for with the fork and how can I tell if the clutch is stuck to the flywheel without disassembly?

I did have a look at the fork as much as I could while under the car. I was able to move it up and down but it was pretty tight front to back once the cable was installed.

I failed to mention that the clutch is probably 12 or so years old but has around 10k on it (I know, I should drive my car more :) ). It still pulls nicely and has no slip that I can tell.

    Thanks again for the input!

Can you get it in gear with the engine off? Does it lunge forward while in first with engine running?

Yes it goes right in gear when not in motion (engine on or off). No lunging...

You do have transmission issues then. Probably cracked blocker rings or the fiber lining has finally glazed or worn off and not causing enough friction to engage the gears.

Ugh...That sucks! Guess I'm going to learn how to rebuild one of these things... I've heard they're pretty straight forward to rebuild.

Very easy to rebuild. Lots of measuring though. Make sure you can read dial indicators and do math. Its real easy to get yourself into a mess and destroy one.

Been a while since I posted on here about this...Been dragging my feet on the rebuild. I missed your post yeahloh95. PM some details on that kit if you still have it.

I definitely need to rebuild it. Lots of play, bad clutch p-plate, fly-wheel, broken shifter fork, worn shifter etc etc...Looks like this is gonna be a $1000+ job! :(

Since the rebuild kits don't include new shifter forks, can any of you tell me where you have gotten new ones? Am I locked in to the dealer on that? I might just start a new thread on the rebuild...

    Thanks!

Can you PM me a link to where you bought it or more info where I could read up on it and let me know how much you want for it? You're located pretty far from me so you'd have to ship it if we make a deal. Thanks!
