    I hate selling cars

Had a TON of folks look at my wife's '90 Stang 'vert. Everything from Wyo-punks to retired couples. Have gotten a couple "We'll take it"'s so I pulled the listing only to have them call back and heard that "plans changed" and the didn't want it. So then I relist it. Had a person put a deposit down on Friday only to call on Sunday and say they changed their mind.

Now two people are trying to beat each other to the bank to get the money. Told them whoever gets here first with a fist full-o-dollars buys the car. And another guys wants to put a deposit on it before the others get money borrowed from the banks.

And I still have a feeling that NO ONE is going to buy it!!

    I hate this crap.

I hate selling anything! I have wheels and tires that are for sale, I have one guy thats been telling me for 2 weeks he wants them but has yet to show with the money. Another guy called for the pickup address only to call the next day and say he changed his mind. This is why everything I sell is first come first serve, I don't hold for anyone!

I deal with tire kickers everyday so I have very little patients for the BS!

    Good luck with the sale!

I got that a lot about the begging not to sell... I tell em "who ever puts the money in my hand first is the winner."

If people can't understand the reasoning for a First-Come, First Served approach then screw 'em.

Amazes me how people go and look at a car without having the money in their pocket...or at least in the bank. The gene pool gets more shallow every day...

    Good thread Dan...

I enjoy selling things to a point, always get to meet some decent car guys, even if you don't end up making a deal. But with the Z06, I was getting some somewhat reasonable "cash offers" of 13K, where at least we can talk, but these guys haven't even seen the car or asked a single question about it. Then literally a dozen emails simply saying, "miles kill the car. 10K cash...", yeah right.

A few years back, I had a '95 M3 for sale with an R-title. It was stupid cheap and had good miles, so I had a stupid amount of interest, but no real takers (like one person had even looked at it). So I get a few emails from this kid, decent punctuation and grammar so I figure he is OK. Dude shows up to my house with 12 people, in 4 cars. Not sure what his idea was, but 2 people walking out of my house with pistols prominently displayed changed any ideas they might have had. The combined weight of them was about 300 lbs anyway, but give me a break. I understand coming with a friend of two, but 11? They are lucky they didn't get shot.

Funny thing was he almost ended up buying the car, someone else showed up with money first.

I've been on both sides, and it's extremely frustrating when someone can't pay up when they said they could. On the other side of the coin, I've had a loan lined up and given a deposit when the bank turned around and denied my loan. Talk about feeling like an ass when I had to tell the guy I couldn't buy the car. To me that's much worse of a feeling than the frustration of re-listing.

i've had nothing but the best of luck selling cars on craigslist...

about three years ago had my 06 ram on craigslist for 2 hours and had 2 separate guys lined up for 12:00, and the other at 12:30 at a middle location to all of us... well the 12:30 guy was early and the 12:00 guy was late... of course the early guy wanted the truck and i felt bad since the other guy was late, and to make matters worse the guy that was late was Pirates announcer John Wehner. all i could do was offer him the truck if it fell through but it didnt

sold my 11 mustang to the first guy that looked at it a day later, check in hand... he was a cop and used car dealer and just wanted to run the car for a few weeks before flipping it..

knock on wood never really been screwed with by anyone on CL so far
