EHD has decimated the deer herd in my area. We found our 11 point dead in a creek. I went from ove 1000 pictures a week on my trail cam to less than 20. I heard rumors that 70 deer were found between Murrysville and Irwin. A dozen bucks in PV park alone.

When we lived out West we used to see antelope in all the flat areas. Those are tough animals to even get within rifle range! Couldn't imagine trying to pop one with a bow....

Can't shoot bow this year. Never got around to getting through my bow course.. ugh...

Thats a rack on that trailcam pic! Id be pumped too considering what's happened here in the last few years. Fortunately I got my bonus tag so I should be able to get something in the freezer regardless.

Dad shot a 13" antelope buck yesterday at 215yds. This AM I got a big doe at 406yds using a custom XP-100 WSM. Great weather and hunting so far. Two more doe tags to go.

I shot a crossbow for the first time last week at my buddies house. He said its the best you can buy. I can't remember the name. Said he has about $1500 invested in it with the scope and all. Anyways, I hit a half inch low from dead center at 30 yards. By in doing so, I damn near lost my thumb.

Not thinking, I had it a tad too high and the string hit it. Right about 2/3rds down on the nail. Ripped the nail half up and peeled skin to meat.

Thought I would bump this up......

I lucked into a pheasant hunt trip to South Dakota (opening weekend) for WILD birds. I understand that more and more birds are being stocked by preserves but the owner of this 2k acre ranch (and they lease another 18k more) claims all these birds are 100% wild. I will say this, the amount of pheasant there was completely insane. Get to the end of a 1/4mi long field and everyone in the group better start aiming high...or you are going to get peppered by bb's. :) Birds can fly up in groups of 5 or more. Unreal experience and likely the best pheasant hunting in the US.

My archery season was non-existant...didn't make it a priority so I didn't get out but once.

PA bear season came and a buddy invited my dad and I up to his camp in Tidioute for the first day (Nov 17th). I've bear hunted just a couple times before near Ohiopyle and have never even seen a bear in the woods before. Luckily for me this young female black bear came trotting down through a rocky ravine I was watching at about 4:15pm.

Opening day for rifle came shortly after but I didn't have big expectations for many mature bucks on my place. I had seen about 5 or 6 young bucks but nothing 3yrs or older. I had a 5pt and some doe come through and that was it. First Saturday I got out to a spot with a good vantage point and about 8:15am this young 8pt and the same 5pt came walking down off the hill behind me and stopped about 30 yds and looked right at me. I knew it was a small buck that normally I would've passed in hopes he made it to next year, but with killing a bear a couple weeks prior I felt pressure to try and get the "PA triple trophy" of killing a bear, buck, and turkey all in one license year.

I see turkeys non-stop around my place so I'm not too worried about getting one and finishing out the 2012-2013 "triple trophy" hunting season.
