I've got a bead on a M6, and its a gorgeous car - not to mention a 500hp V10... my biggest concern is around the SMG transmission... not sure what kind of cost there is on a clutch change, how long they last, and how reliable the v10 is....

If chances are that it will be a nightmare and cost me a fortune throughout 2 years of ownership, i'll pass on it...
If you are looking at a $100k car, you should not be asking how much something cost to fix. Short answer would be outrageous!

quite frankly, it should be the other way around - but its a moot point... i decided to walk away from that opportunity...

If it were a "toy" i wouldn't care, but being a car that my wife will drive daily, i don't know that i can deal with 10mpg fuel consumption.... i was considering ignoring that, but she drives a lot, so i don't know that i want to have that kind of fuel bill

It seems like you picked three of the top most expensive vehicles to maintain, and probably the most common to break, rovers are total garbage any year any milage in addition to having the worst resale value of anything currently produced. You might be better off looking for opinions on car and driver or motor trend, the 12 or so people on this site capable of buying of of the cars you listed as new have enough dough to not care about maintence cost or MPG

Well - i started this thread when we first were looking... we've ruled some cars out

RR is out - just don't like the styling and the reputation on reliability is beyond poor...
Cayenne is nowhere near as nice as you'd expect
M6 is just not a car i want my wife driving as a DD i don't think

We've looked at just about everything out there, and we're still back to 2 of the original 4, and one other... the Jag XF or the BMW X5... both have some reputation of poor reliability, while also some reputation of greatness... and the last one is a new Acura MDX - but the only MDX i'd take is a very specific one, and very hard to find used... there is one in the Cleveland area, but they've only had it for about 3 weeks, so they're apparently not ready to work with me on it enough yet... If it doesnt sell and they have it for another month, maybe they'll change their mind

I'm patient - we've been seriously looking for over a month now... i'll wait until i find something that suits my fancy for the right price...

One of the funniest things to me is when you go on other sites, looking at reliability for these vehicles, you see people there bitching about the horrible reliability of SRT8's, Cadillacs, etc... all cars that I wouldn't' expect that from... so i dunno... it makes me wonder if some of the reliability crap is just nonsense....

Other than my Lexus, i've only ever owned domestics, so i'm not well versed on imports... it just so happens, that the luxury import i bought is basically the most reliable car on the road...
