    Antelope hunting trip results

I posted the pics all at the link listed below so anyone that does not care to see dead animals doesn't have to see them....when really you should have read the thread title and not clicked on it anyhow! But that's besides the point....people are nosey.

Dad and I had a great time. He had a buck and doe tag while I just got two doe tags. I got a decent buck in 2009 and wanted to make sure we got him a decent buck on this trip (his first for antelope). We started hunting on Sunday afternoon and had all the tags filled by Monday afternoon. His goats were taken with a Kleingunther K-15 Deluxe .270 Weatherby Mag launching a Sierra 140gr SPBT at 3200fps. The buck at 215yds and the doe at 208yds. I was using a custom XP-100 7mmx270WSM from Allen Precision Shooting in Montana. It has a HS Precision stock, Lilja barrel, Holland lug, DE brake, M-16 extracted, fully blueprinted. It shoots 162 Hornady A-Max's at 2825fps. My doe were taken at 406yds and 325yds.

The link has pics from my 2009 trip as well as the 2012 trip I just got back from (about two weeks ago).

You can't get a quality match grade brass for the 7mm WSM. So I went with the 270WSM which you can get Norma brass for. Then had the reamer cut with the 270WSM body and shoulder but a 7mm bullet in the neck....don't the exact outer neck diameter on hand right now. The 7mm brass is .035" longer at the shoulder length but I just kept the .270 measurement to minimize any fireforming and maximize barrel life. Besides, it's not like an extra .035" would make anyappreciable difference in performance.

The 162's are AWESOME. With H4831SC they go 2825fps from the 17" barrel (rifled length) and usually hang around 1.25" at 500yds...when I'm on my game. Load development at 250yds had the better loads going under .6-.8".

We did it for $2100 for both of us.....that included everything....gas, tags (one buck and three doe tags), processing, hotel, food, tolls, etc. The ground we hunted was public.

It was all DIY......just apply for tags in the area you want to hunt. Get maps and study them!
