    duplicate car titles

    anyone ever got one?
long story short i sold my police car to someone who never titled it into his name and then i bought it back....our sigs were on the back so i applied for a duplicate title.

got my new title today and it has the mileage listed for when i bought the car new first time around. actually there are more than 3,000 more miles on it now. it has high miles to begin with, but i am just concerned the carfax thing is going to be all effed up over it.

I dont think you would have a problem. I would hang on to the original. If you ever do sell you could easily explain. Arent you in law enforcement anyways?

    you are correct.
    he never titled it.

but i have two titles here. the old one that had an odom procd date of 1/12/06 listing mileage or 150626

and a second one which i just got in the mail today that says odom procd date of 4/9/07 and listing mileage of 150626

in between these dates car was inspected and showed the correct higher mileage

It shouldn't matter, you were just getting a duplicate of the title when you first bought it. Now if he had titled it and then sold it back to you and the milage had not changed that would be different.

exactly...plus pretty soon it should switch to "mileage exceeds mechanical limits" and the mileage isnt recorded after then

i just spoke with a good friend of mine who owns a dealership and he told me the carfax will show in another 2 weeks or so that a duplicate title was issued.
when you apply for a duplicate its essentially an exact copy of the original so you can't change the miles

the car never left my name so i wasn't concerned about that, just thought penndot may have screwed up which doesn't happen too often.......

and lou, the best part is from the time that car left my driveway and went to new hampshire and back home again to pa it had maybe 10 miles of test drives put on it. had some serious trailer miles on it though.
