    Local convertible top replacement

Anyone have any experiences (good or bad) using a local company to replace their convertible top? The 95 GT I bought needs the top replaced. I am looking at three options:

    1. Buy a new top, and install it myslf - any members ever done this? I'll have all winter to do it, so time is not that big a deal.

    2. Buy a complete used top, and install it onto my car. still debating the pros/cons of doing this.

    3. Pay a pro - in the process of getting a few estimates, hence why i am looking for recommendations of local installers.

I would say, buy it yourself and install yourself. I'm sure there are write ups on other forums and guys on here that have done it.

I would say go with a good used one it all ready has all the proper mounting points and you can avoid a plastic rear window. You can use one from a 94-04 thats what i did

Yep, looked at a few write-ups. Going to check out some videos on you tube. I've seen mixed results from self installs. I figure ive got a few months over the winter to get it done.

Saw the picture of your car in the 06 wheels on 99 thread. Your top looks pretty nice. What year is the top from? I thought only 94-98 tops worked for a 95. If the newer ones (99-04) work, that would make my search easier.

i have a 04 top the only thing you have to change is the lock pins the 99-04 have longer ones and also there is 1 button tab that holds the headliner up it a little short but if you stretch it it will fit fine other than that direct swap

Thanks, gave him a call. He did give a really good price. If I go new, i'm going to go with specialized auto interiors in bethel park. Really good price, uses ez-on tops, which get good reviews online, and use haartz materials. Also, it turns out i know the owner of the shop, and they work on lots of high-end custom cars.

Thanks for the tips. flowers auto wrecking in smithton has a top off an 04 for $450 that is supposed to be in excellent condition, i'm going to go look at it. I thought about buying a used top from an 03-04 cobra, but for what they are asking for used ones, I can get a new cloth top installed for a couple hundred more.

So after all my research and the replies on here, i'm either buying a complete used top, or having specialized auto interiors do it. Thanks to all for the tips!
