    Question Aftermarket o/r H-pipe VS. Aftermarket Catted H-pipe?

    As far as power goes, dealing with aftermarket products, how much more hp does an o/r free up over the little high-flow cats?

    ...and/or how much more does an aftermarket catted mid-pipe flow over the stocker?

    anybody ever do a back-to-back dyno with their stock and new mid-pipe and no other changes?

    Depends on what applications.
    Mostly bought just for sound and some HP
    anything flows better than stock :)

    Did you buy a car???? I can only tell by the butt-o-meter, but the catted x in my made a noticeable improvement and the sound was greatly improved.

    I was thinking I'd stay legal this time and go with a catted mid-pipe.

    The car has 2-chamber flowmaster muffs welded into the stock cat-back. I'm prolly gonna stick with an h with the chambers. MRT has a nice stainless steel catted h, but the damn thing is $515.

    I was originally going to go with a catted H, but found them pretty expensive, so in went the x.

    i have a BBK O/R X... and a set of flowmaster 40's... i think i lost a lil low end torque, but picked up above 4 grand(4 cammer).
    i am seriously considering going to a prochamber and magnaflows. the damn thing is kinda TOO loud(i do like dropping it in 4th in the tunnel, tho!). a lil too raspy for me, and i like the way my friend's terminator sounds with that setup....has more of a 60's musclecar sound.

    buddy of mine had a Dr. Gas o/r x and mac catback on his '02 GT. It was definitely a different sound. It sounded like a coffee can full of nickles at low RPM, but like a Nextel Cup car at WOT.

    I'm not normally a sheep, but I'll stick to the standard h-pipe + chambers OR x-pipe + flow-throughs.

    My old car had a mac o/r h and mac catback. It sounded great, but almost too loud + after two years, it had surface rust all over it and I prolly only had it in the rain a few times.

    I'm tired of going to Mr. Looktheotherway to get my car inspected and I wanna take a few trips with the car this summer and I don't want any chit from the PO PO in other states (yes I'm too lazy to put the stocker on for the trips and who wants to lose power when they're on the innastate?).

    Prochamber is an awesome mid pipe. Don't get the crackling and popping and it's a deep, throaty sound. IMO it's not quite as loud as conventional O/R pipes, unless you put magnapacks out back that is......

    Troll, aren't you emissions exempt? Are they that tough about checking for cats?

    I guess I'm getting old and soft??? I just want to tone it down a little and stay legal, but get a little more flow. The car is pretty loud now with the 2-chamber flows and stock mid-pipe.

    EDIT: You might have me convinced, BC. LMM has these:

    for $233 and they probably have them in stock with no shipping. That leaves me $300 to spend somewhere else.

    Going off road on a 2v doesn't net you any appreciable difference. Aftermarket hi flow cats flow very well and don't offer that much of a restriction. People have seen 2rwhp gains switching to o/r pipes. The x will make more power than the h you want but not a whole hell of a lot more either.

    I use a MAC offroad h with round CATCO cats welded in. I tried a BBK offroad h with the flatter style dynomax cats but I blew both cats out launching the car at the track. The MAC/Catco setup I have sounds far better(rather aggressive as it turns peoples heads) then the BBK/Dynomax so I think these cats flow a little better. Plus the MAC pipe is a far straighter flow then the huge bends the BBK had. Buying the pipes and welding in the cats if your able to is about $100 less over all then buying a pipe with cats already.

    As for time I don't think I ever noticed a difference from offroad pipe to catted pipes.

    Well, I went with the o/r prochamber because I got a hell of a deal (thanks again 2000GT) and I love it. Crusher, you're right... it's not as loud as the conventional H and I couldn't be happier about that. Nice low mellow sound.

    I think most people go with the o/r pipes because of cost.
    Buddy of mine runs the new high flow Magnaflow cats in his Camaro and will still make around 700-800hp. :)

    Glad you like it man. I got mine off Lou and I gotta tell you I doubt I'll ever run a different mid pipe on mine. I love the flows with the PC too your ride has to sound awesome.

    This is 100% true. I think some like the idea of being catless too. If you are road racing it would be a good idea to go catless but on your average street/strip car it doesn't make that big of a difference.
