Can't really say it was a range, just a section of the ranch where the owner wanted prairie dogs shot. It was about a mile long and mile wide. Sounds unbelievable but out there that kind of open area is everywhere. The place we were hunting was 50k acres.

My hunting partner teaches shooting schools part time for Darrell holland. So he's a long range shooting guru. If anyone knows anything about custom guns, then you've heard of Darrel. I just followed his lead.

Yeah I was wondering why I hadn't seen any sheds. I guess because their still walking around on the deer lol.

  8. #168
Cant believe the bucks still have their headgear, figured they would have dropped by now. Guess that's why Im not finding any sheds either lol.

I wonder if the mild winter has something to do with that. We spotted a nice buck on a hillside by our jobsite a couple weeks ago. We were surprised it still had headgear.

Saw 4 racked bucks this morning on my road...I am surprised they have not dropped their horns yet. (2 not in the pic)

The one was 8-9pts and 15" wide...he should be pretty respectable next year. Glad to see these guys made it through the season.

The pics above on on a Moultrie A5. They have a gen 2 out of the same camera but mines a gen 1
I also have an older Tasco from Walmart that works good. The Moultrie has more settings. The A5 is a solid cheap camera. All of mine take c batteries. They batteries last a good while in them before I have to change them. 3 months or more. Ive been told by others that the cameras that take AA batteries need them replaced more often. Not sure how true this is because I've never owned one. I would suggest getting one that uses infrared for night pics instead of a flash. I usually buy a cheaper camera because if someone steals it I'm not out too much cash. So far I haven't had an issue.

Was just thinking the other day I need to put out a camera for this yr....so far only seen a couple scrub bucks....and a coyote pup.

did you ever get a second opinion on your one pic that looks like a mtn lion?

I still can't figure out what that is unless it's a domestic dog?

Moultrie makes pretty solid cam's, I've never had many complaints while using the ones I have. I have a couple Wildgame Innovations cams, they are hit and miss. One works great, the other shits the bed. I would stay away from those. Most of the cams I have use 8 AA batteries, they are usually good for a few thousand pics before I have to change them. Cuddeback, Bushnell and Browning also make some quality cams.

I notice they are alert and looking at the cam. Does it make a noise when taking photos that alerts them?

Never really found anything else out. Not sure if I mentioned it before but I did talk to a farmer in the area that swears he saw a lion crossing a power line on his property around the same time frame. I haven't seen it since but they travel in a large area.

It makes a faint click when it snaps the pic but I think that even though it's camo and blends in the deer can tell that it's not natural. My camera has been in the same spot since February I think and some deer still look at it. uploadfromtaptalk1470775699181.jpg

This pic is great. Figured I'd share it as well.
