When someone says my car or motor is stock, what does that mean to you?
It means just that.....Stock as the day it rolled off the Assembly Line.

okay. What if you take a stock part off one car and put it on another.. for example
Stock eaton off a cobra and put it on a GT
or take heads off a stock 6.0 and put them on a ls1 for the gm guys
Stock motor...I usually think of a stock longblock or at least internals.

still modified. Didn't come factory on the car, and you are putting the part off of the other vehicle to improve yours. with that logic I could take the turbo off a cummins and still call my car stock lol
I have an 8.8 rearend in my car, v6's came with 7.5 inch rears. I don't have a stock rear.

Completely stock, untouched down to the paper filter. same goes for my car is stock, this means no drag radials! I hear that "stock" talk all the time, and it almost always isn't. There is a running joke between a friend of mine and me with a car being "mustang" stock, which apparently means a combination of some or all of, exhaust, tune, cai, suspension, and tune. Since the new 5.0's came out the defininition of stock seemed to change. lol

Stock is how it rolled off the line. If you wanna say stock except _______ then that's ok. Kinda like oh I dunno... porting stock heads = not stock, lol

Stock means nothing to me. I believe nothing I hear and only half of what I see.
Stock means the way the car came from the factory. This includes ECU programming.
Stock does NOT mean that you replaced parts with parts that were stock on a different model.
Stock engine to me means that from the manifold plenum to the oil pan all parts are factory spec for YOUR model car.
Stock short block means the block and rotating assembly are factory spec for YOUR model car.
For example, my Mustang has a stock engine, stock transmission, and even stock gear...but it sure as hell isn't a stock car.
This 'what constitutes stock' debate has been going on for as long as I've been into cars (15 years now...man I'm old) and probably longer. It'll never end.
