    Hotwire 86 Mustang

Just got back from Spain and I'm waiting for a locksmith to have time to come make me a new set of keys. Is there a way I can get this bad boy to run without the keys? A friend suggested the screwdriver in the ignition, but how hard is that to do? I read online there's a box on the right side of the column that can be unbolted which will allow me to start it, but I'm not positive.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Guaranteed you can start it by wiring a couples wires together, but the steering wheel will still be locked. Thats why we, I mean thieves, always break the column.

whoever told you to use a screw driver neglected to tell you that the column will most likely break when you do this and you will have more problems than just needing keys.

just wait for keys cause you can't change the cylinder without one and you start cuttign wires and thats just gonna cause even more problems

Ouch, that doesn't sound fun. The thing is it's my only form of transportation, so I have to get her moving. The locksmith is giving me a way better deal than anyone else, 75 bucks instead of 260 but he said Saturday at the earliest. I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place....

Fox's of that era can generally be opened / started with one of about 5-8 keys, especially with a used lock cylinder. Some yards / mischievous individuals keep an assortment of keys and try them ... They arent exactly the most secure system ;)

Can you borrow some keys to try? Might be suprised

I was out on the bike today and MAN did I forget how cold it could get in PA! I haven't felt air colder than high 50's so it sure was a shock lol My friends keys didn't work, so I'm going to see if Lou has a column with a key that I could buy in the morning.

Would it be a possibility to just replace the key cylinder?

I think you need the key in the lock to remove the cylinder? Not 100% sure, but it would seem like not needing the key would make the car VERY steal-able.

To do it "right" you have to have the key.

Here is another method, drill the lock out.

Locked myself out of the house once, so I call a locksmith,,,

He shows up, takes my $150 cash up front, then takes a hammer and beats
the brass bezel off the dead bolt and used a screwdriver to unlock it.

I shook my head; So that's why you get paid up front?

    He just said

Yep, we had one come by to open up a hope chest my g/f locked the key inside. They literally had to drive 1.5 miles to my house, I called them after the initial call to see what the fee would be, but surprise, the tech never called me back (I was at work). He was the house 10 minutes, picked the lock and charged her $175 and said it had to be cash only. Needless to say, she paid him before I could stop her. What a joke.

there is another option anyone on here have a "Ford emergency plastic key" when you turn the ignition with the plastic key it does destroy the ignition however you can then replace the ignition cylinder for less than 30 bux at any autoparts store
