The problem with that logic, is that in time we will have millions of assault
weapons out there in the hands of millions of people. Eventually that itself
increases the threat of anarchy and lawlessness. Assault weapons have no
place in a civil society where laws and law enforcement are the main form
of a modern, just society. That type of firepower is paramilitary. It has no
place in a civil society. If you feel compelled to be part of a well regulated
militia, then you can either join the Guard, or a private militia that is well
regulated by the laws of our society. The notion that all citizens should be
armed to the teeth, prepared to take matters into their own hands, goes
against the principle of a civil society based on the rules of law. You take
self defense too far, to an anarchist view, to justify assault weapons. You
can't simultaneously foster rule of law and a civil society while preparing
for anarchy. There is something called a self fulfilling prophecy. If we put
enough of these assault weapons out there, the rule of law, civil society,
could break down, and could actually create anarchy. Just look at other
countries (like the middle east) where assault weapons are available to
the highest bidder, do you want our streets to be like that someday? Our
society has advanced beyond that type of anarchy to a society based on
the rule of law. Bad people will still do bad things and sometimes people
will die. That's just a fact of life, no amount of assault weapons will stop
that type of tragedy from occurring. If it could, it would have done it by
now, but in reality, they just compound the casualties. What scares me
most is this general lack of faith in the rule of law, and modern society.
Many of you don't seem to realize that you are "preparing" for Anarchy,
within one of the greatest societies ever created by man. Imagine what
could happen if you put down the assault guns, and work on improving
our ongoing experiment in society and the rule of law. One principle is
fatalistic, the other, is leaning forward to the future.
Which one takes the most courage?
Sure can. But is that the intent? Drunk drivers also don't intend on killing someone. It's a completely different argument than guns.
Again, I'm not against guns. When the gun control argument...er discussion pops up it should concentrate solely on guns, not ropes, spray paint, cars, puffy white clouds, video games, ninjas, my little pony, lipstick or any other object that has nothing to do with firearms.
Live free or die
But to shoot someone was not the intent of me buying any of my guns. I bought them because I like the sport of shooting..
Wanna ban crossbows? knives? compound bows?
Why pick on guns only when they dont kill as many people as cars and such? hmm.. Car bombs? If we ban cars, there will be no more car bombs! that will fix that.
Everyone keeps bringing up assault weapons, do you classify a semi automatic pistol as an assault weapon also? Alot will hold 15 rounds with a regular mag not to mention a high cap. Magazine, should they all be banned also?

You have to pass a background check to own any firearm including assult rifles. If you aren't a criminal you are allowed and should be allowed to own them. Ban assult rifles and they will come for high capacity shotguns next, or large caliber pistols, or semi-auto guns. I am amazed at the amount of people fighting for a larger government. High performance cars fall into a catagory of putting other people at risk. perhaps the government should put limits on how much horsepower is "legal" No need to go faster then the speed limit anyway. Tobacco serves no purpose that serves to better humanity. Gone. Alcohal has caused countless deaths to innocent people by drunk drivers. Adults, children, it has no preferance. Big brother should ban it for the betterment of society. Poor nutrician has put obesity at an alarming rate and the heath of our society at a danger point. People should not have the choice of eating these unhealthy items. To be free you have to rely on people using good judgement and values. Sadly there are people that step out of the boundries of what is legal and acceptable, and the consequences can be horrific.

The problem isn't guns, it's people. Some people are stupid and make mistakes, some people are sick and do terrible things. We cant account for everything and everyone by continuing to implement new laws, one of top of another, over and over again, like we have been doing for years. This kind of reactive attitude and ignorance is a prime example of how piss poor the leadership is in this country. Punishing law abiding citizens by taking away their right or restricting their access to firearms is ridiculous. We have an estimated 300 + million people in this country, bad things like what just happened will continue to happen and there is nothing anyone or any law can do about it.
With that said, keeping any firearm or weapons in general out of the wrong peoples hands should always be the goal. Every firearm purchase or transfer should be subject to a back ground check regardless of the type of firearm. The fact that that any non nfa rifle or shotgun can be handed from owner to another without any background check is a joke and another example of how piss poor the leadership is in this country.

The government has wanted this for years now. Ive heard more politicans talking about gun laws lately then even saying anything about the tragedy that took place, Or sending out there thoughts and prayers for the familys.
Its sad to say, But they are gonna use this horrid event to reach the end goal they been after for years. And thats the sad truth and its pretty clear to see that.
Ban ar-rifles.. Hell how many are already out there. And if someone wants one yeah im sure they can get 1.
Limit to 10 round clips.. Well I aint sure about other people, But its pretty easy to drop a clip out of an ar-15 and insert another. So a guy with a 10 round clip with several extras scares me about the same as a guy with 25-30 and then extra clips.
Really this whole rant is simple, Ban all guns tomm. Bring a truck around and take all the guns people own now. Even ones for hunting. And Guess what, Yep there is still gonna be people killing other people. All I keep hearing is ok but a person wont be able to kill as many people that fast. Well Ive seen semi trucks drive through churches and kill 18 people. People make bombs and take out buildings using crap they bought from a hardware store.
People will always find a way to harm others, And thats the end of the story. No matter what you, me, or the government does or changes.
Good thing you can't (legally) own a gun in Chicago, no gun violence there! We can look to all the major cities who have bans already in place, as it has certainly worked so well for their homicide issues.
please note intense sarcasm

Well said Cam, Steel City, Mark, and Wickedsnake. I agree with all of you.
I guess we should have banned Airplanes too after 9/11, beings thousands of people were killed from 4 airplanes.
Its not the objects killing the people, its the mental cases/scumbags/psycho's/idiots controlling the objects that are killing the people and doing these violent acts.

If it looks good, you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. If it's marketed right, you'll buy it. But if it's real, you'll feel it. IG: @donuttrump
Most liberal minded people don't want to take away your guns, the mere
act of trying to collect all of those guns from unwilling owners is unlikely
and only a fool would believe it possible, or probable. I just want us to
increase some regulation (require locked cases and magazine size limits)
and ban new semi automatic assault weapon sales (like it was pre 1994)
because those weapons have no practical purpose but to assault targets
and mass murder. The longer we wait, the more of these killing machines
will be out there and the harder it will be to keep them out of the hands of
crazy people. But that still leaves millions of these guns out there, so even
that isn't "taking away" your guns. Most of what you are "scared" by is the
totally paranoid ranting of the NRA and its gun manufacturing lobby. The
things that they have said to whip up fear, paranoia, and contributions by
gun owners verge on the criminal (inciting an uprising). Yet it is somehow
allowed because they alone claim to represent our 2nd amendment, as if
they wrote it!? There are no evil masses of liberals coming for your guns.
We just want more regulation. And there is no so called slippery slope....
The government has no individual will, it is an elected body comprised of
citizens like you and me. One of the things that freaks me out is paranoid
irrational gun owners. So let us all proceed rationally?
That's it for me. Happy Holidays!
First- let's be clear: So called 'assault weapons' are the VERY firearms the Second Amendment protects. The Second Amendment isn't about deer hunting, gun collecting, or target shooting. Read a few history books.
Second- we TRIED a federal assault weapons ban. It was in effect for 10 years. It didn't work. Columbine occurred during the middle of it. We knew it didn't work and allowed it to expire back in 2004. After expiring, violent crime actually dropped, contrary to all the liberal anti-gun predictions of mass chaos and anarchy. Futhermore...Connecticut already has a state level 'assault weapons' ban on the books. It didn't work either...obviously.
Cries for more gun control are emotional, knee jerk reaction that pop up when awful things happen. Analyzed logically, it doesn't stand up.
