My 5.4L is of '01 vintage in a F-150 Super Crew. I can say that is has towed and hauled all that I would want it to. That's on an 18' tilt deck with many full size pick ups on it. Gas mileage running around town is 14-15 and 17 on the highway. Towing is 10-11mpg.

I don't see why folks bad mouth it so much. Sure...it's not going to run like a Termi but a Termi won't haul anything and certainly not pull a trailer. Plus is not 4wd.

It's a TRUCK....who buys one for mpg anyway?? They are a work vehicle.

I would say my ecoboost gets about the same fuel economy as any of the 5.4's I have had in the past but has WAY more power. I have had an 02 and an 08.

My 11 ecoboost crew short bed averages 16, will get over 20 if I highway cruise @ 55, approximately 18 mpg unloaded with passengers @ 75mph on the highway. I think when I towed my full weight 13 gt to bowling green with 3 occupants, full bed and 18' aluminum full deck open trailer I averaged 12 mpg. IMO the power exceeds the 5.4 that was in my 08 f250 and tows just as good.

I don't doubt that yours has way more power. But my truck is 12yrs old and have been paid for for 8yrs. I'll keep mine!!

We have the exact same truck except I put on a rancho 4" lift and 35" trail grapplers. Looks like the lift and tires lost me about 2mpg. Worth every bit of it I think.

The old 2v 5.4 is a better engine in my opinion.

Didn't you install the larger fuel tank? I really want to do this but never got around to researching, cant stand the little oem tank...

If you have time and don't mind, PM the details or a link to what needs done. Other than my squeaky driver seat, the small fuel tank is my only other complaint about this truck.

You need the tank, fuel pump/pick up assembly, fuel lines that run on top of tank, and the heat shield.

I would love to have a 3/4 ton truck.....and want one in the worst way. But then I go to visit a friend that has one, ride around in it for a couple days, then hop back in my F-150 and fall in love with it again.

Just got rid of my 2009 Ram 1500 for a 2012 Megacab Ram 2500 with a Cummins. I noticed very little difference in ride and comfort. Both truck are Laramie packages with all the available options.

If he is looking for 3/4 ton with 1/2 ton comfort, he needs to look at 2010 and newer IMO. Lots of suspension and interior improvements from ach of the big 3.
