German cars aren't that bad, they're just like any other car on the road. The difference is the dealerships and the cost of (some) parts. A new tie rod, control arm, installment and 4 wheel alignment would've been $956 at the dealer for my S4. Bought the parts thru tuning shops for $150, installed them myself and paid $130 for the 4 wheel alignment. Yes, some of the parts can be pricey but if you do your homework they're really not as bad as other cars on the road. My S4 was a tank of gas away from 200,000 miles on the original engine and transmission when it was smashed into and totaled.

Right now my Jetta TDI is at 41,000 miles so far getting me 37-44 MPG, and it's honda reliable. I've only done oil changes so far.
