Neither are necessary. Slots are useful for keeping the pads clean on a rally car for instance, but with pad technology what it is they really aren't useful for anything, but they don't typically break like drilled junk does. Slots won't hurt, but at least 95% of cars you see at a road course run blanks.

This is what happened after about 6 laps with drilled garbage on the REAR of my Z06 (car came with them). I instantly replaced the fronts with NAPA blanks, but was too cheap to replace the rear thinking they would be OK. Sounded like something in the rear suspension broke, and almost ate the tire wall when the tire continued to try to lock up with any application of the brakes (time trial, was trying to finish the last hot lap).

They do, Like I said before my cross drilled and slotted ones lasted a month or so before they crackd (I followed Baer's break in procedure to the letter)

This one is a little blurry

I'd keep a very close eye on them... I spotted the crack in my rotor before it got out of hand. Cross drilled rotors are for parking lot car shows

You'll be fine on the street (fine for autocross as well, although I make fun of cross drilled rotors with the same hatred as tire shine and ventshades ). Just grab some blanks before you venture onto a road course.

Mine just broke. Same thing happened on the M3 I had that came with them. Thought I would've learned my lesson?

Sad that cross drilled rotors are more $$ and they're junk. I guess if i decide to get better brakes on my car i'll skip the cross drilled and use slotted. Thanks Mark and Greg, youns guys are all white.
