clutch fork rattling

IWell guys I just got done doing the 5 speed swap to my 91 gt ( or so I thought) . I started the car to test it out and for some reason I was getting a rattling sound coming from under the car. At first I though was the pedal cause it is a little worn. So I jack the car up to inspect the fork and I notice that the fork is rattling up and down hitting the sides of the inspection hole the fork goes through. Also when I push the clutch in I can feel and clunk about half way into it. It has a brand new sve mongoose clutch kit, clutch fork, pivot stud. New steeda couch cable kit. It seem to be engaging and disengaging property it will rattle while its in neutral or in gear while the pedal is out barely put pressure on the pedal it stop. What the hell could it be

Is it hitting the back and front or top and bottom, Are u sure the fork is clipped into the pivot ball?

One might still be in front of the pivot ball and the other behind...

I started to think the same thing i‘ll probably pull it apart tomorrow evening I'll keep you guys updated.

update: pulled the trans this evening as i got the front shaft out the fork dropped to the bottom of the bell. i tried clipping it back on but it doesn't seem to want to lock on. its the same fork in the picture above i got it from LRS. pulled the trans from under the car and noticed the from bearing retainer was grooved pretty bad. so i'm thinking thats the reason for the clunking sound when i push the clutch in. do you guys think that would also cause the rattle at the fork since the bearing is riding on a uneven surface.

Thats grooved in the input shaft? I honestly dont know what would cause that.

Yeah its the bearing retainer that doubles as a sleeve for the throw out bearing to ride on. There made of aluminium so after 20-25 years they wear out i'll be ordering a new steel on this week. The input shaft is fine very very little play.

that bearing retainer looks horrible. Definitely replace that. I would replace the throw out bearing too, because it probably got screwed up sliding on that retainer. Did you grease the throw out bearing/retainer? You should do that with a LITTLE bit of grease.

And how about pilot bearing? Did you put a new one in when you did the swap?

the throw out bearing is getting hung up on your input bearing retainer causing all kinds of issues, unfortunately you need a bearing retainer, just make sure to use the correct shim when replacing the bearing retainer,

Thanks guys the pilot, throw out , pivot ball, fork are all new that only thing that isn't is the retainer. I'm picking a new one up today. Do you think I should put a new tail shaft bushing in while its out. I called a local tranny shop and they said $100 for the bushing, seal and to put it in.

Got the retainer and bushing put in at another tranny shop for half of what the other guy wanted. Hope to get the trans back in the car tomorrow.
