    classic plate

Anyone have a classic plate (purple and white) registered in their name that they now no longer need? Looking for one for my truck next year. Want it clean.

If you want a classic plate, you can still get them through PA dept of transportation. Pictures of both sides, the front and back. If you want a purple antique plate, you cant get them anymore unless you buy a vehicle with the plate on it. The current antique plates look like regular PA plates.

The current antique plates don't look like the regular plates, although they no longer are the purple plate with white letters. They are a mostly white plate with a picture of a model T on them. They are really ugly. That's probably the reason Silver doesn't want one of those. No idea why PA changed the look of the plates. The old ones weren't bad looking. Glad my '66 has the old style!

Ok - I see he's looking for a Classic plate - not an antique plate. My bad. I'm not sure what the new Classic plates look like. That's what I get for working late...brain dead...

New classic plates have the same picture as the antique plate. Also to note, PA no longer requires the pictures to register for classic plates. You just fill out the form and the state sends you a plate. No picture approval required.

That is interesting that they would change that. Better for all but surprising knowing how tight ass the DMV is.

One thing that bothers me about the "purple" antique plates. If you have a antique plate and you sell the car, 9without transfering the plate) you can keep the plate. You cant sell it so someone else can use it. You either transfer it to another antique vehicle or you put it up on your shelf. If the DOT would let people buy these non used plates from people and reregister them, they would make a lot of money. I actually picked up a couple of mint antique plates off of ebay. I was going to petetion the state to see if I could register them.

The classic / antique plates can be transferred to new owners or different cars. The charge is $75, the same as if you'd get a new classic/antique plate.

The photos aren't needed anymore, BUT if the state finds that your car doesn't truly qualify for that type of plate they can revoke your plate and fine you.

Are you sure about this? I put a classic plate on my car last november, and I got the purple/white plate. maybe it changed after I got mine. I was surprised I did not need pictures.
