    Race Tire Trailer help

I'm getting a little frustrated. I want to find a small trailer for towing behind the Cobra to carry 4 tires. I have seen that some people have bought and slightly modified a Harbor Freight one, but I would have thought someone would sell one ready to use. I will mod a HF one if I have to, but I'd rather just buy one made for carrying tires. I'm going to VIR for the svt event memorial day weekend and I would like to take my set of BFGs. Any insight would be great. Thanks.

I want to do one as well, be able to hook up to the Mustang and carry 4 tires and a tool box. I think I saw one on Craigslist about 6 months ago.

I just saw a trailer that slips into the receiver and hangs. No axle or wheels on it. Looked like enough room to carry the wheels and tires too. That's gonna bug me now. I'll try to find it..

I like that!! Don't ever see the need for one but I sure do like it. Would be pretty easy to build. If someone had the plans and materials I'd be willing to help with the fab work. Would something that small need a title?

Only problem is with how low Mustangs are the rack might scrape going up a steep incline etc.

The Harbor Freight trailer looks like a good starting point. Especially for under $200 w/ everything. All I can see that it would need is a deck and some "D" rings around the side for tie downs.

Well, my Mustang. I curious if something like the HF one would need a license plate etc.

If so, isn't it like $6 a year for the trailer plate?

I have seen guys hang those things off hitches with 4 tires on them. Really don't think the little hitches for these cars were designed for that kind of weight flopping around on it. Kind of creeps me out.

this could work - you'd probably have to stand the wheels up and use some wheel chocks & racheting straps

I used to take out the rear seat, four tires would stand up in the well, jack behind the seat, tools in the trunk and an overnight bag on the seat. Everything stayed locked up. That is if you didn't mind a litte brake dust. Would give them a wipe down after running to get most of the dust and rubber marbles off.

And it was free. I lived on the second floor of my apartment building and lugging a trailer up the steps would have been next to impossible (narrow staircase). Taking the tires and tools up was pain enough.

I tried the rack but the car was so low it would drag everywhere, made for an interesting light show at night.

    Just a thought.

Never would have thought that four tires fit would fit in the back seat area.

Here is a picture I forgot I had saved on my phone. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1367495429.831273.jpg

    Hey Chris
I PM'd you back. The problem with building your own trailer is that the process of getting it registered is bizzarre and time consuming.
Did you check out Tractor Supply? They have some pretty small ones that you could bolt a tool box and some tire supports to pretty quickly. Plus they're ready to register.

BTW- The car is Mineral Gray not DSG.
