    starting issues

If my car sits all night and its cold it will take about 7 or 8 cranks to start, and sometimes after a heat soak and i go to start it it will take about 10 to 12 cranks to turn over and when it doea the rps are only at about 300 or so then will pick up, i had new plugs and a fuel filter put on with no help, any ideas? Thanks

Didn't you have an issue with your head gaskets awhile back? I can't remember for sure, but blown head gaskets can make a car harder to start because its losing compression.. After a few the compression starts to build and then it will start.. Although, historically you'd know if there was an compression issue, so we can probably rule that out..

You had your fuel filter and new plugs put in. Your cars a 98 right? Did you change the plug wires as well.. I would check into the fuel pump. When they are having a slow death, they sometimes will have that specific issue where it takes awhile to crank before it starts, then it really runs choppy..

Those are just a few ideas.. It could be quite a few other things.. Crank Position Sensor, etc.. My bet will be the fuel pump though.. Maybe someone else will chime in with me, and give some more perspective on what they may think.

No its a 2002 gt. No head gasket issues i only put new plugs, fuel filter, im going to check the fuel pressure though. when the fuel filter was changed there was a lot of dark brown gas that poured out i hope none of that crap made its way to the fuel injectors. I do have a horrible miss at idle as well though :( it sounds like its choking and occasionally when i press the clutch in to shift ill hear a lil backfire

Do you have a code reader of some sort? Do you know if your throwing any codes, maybe a cylinder misfire. Did you check the Coil On Plug boots, to make sure there aren't any tears? My money is going to be a fuel pump related issue.

Well i did the fuel pressure check..when you turn the key pressure shoots up to 50lbs but starts to bleed off instantly and fast. With the car running its holdong about 43lbs but as soon as you shut the car off theres no fuel pressure holding. In about 3 to 5 minutes its at zero. Wtf?

And that has been the case in past issues with some people. Go onto google and search for fuel pump issues with 99-04. Quite a few people have had pressure when it's running. The pumps not dead obviously, but if it's starting to die you'll see issues.
