    WTB Race Gas

Anyone know where to buy some race gas around the Irwin, Greesburg or Monroeville area? The Sunoco on clay pike has been out for nearly a month. I didn't really want to travel towards PRP for a couple of gallons.

You looking for leaded or unleaded? Anything specific in mind (C14, C16, unleaded 100, etc)? Depending on your needs you could always use Torco or Xylene, and it might be easier then traveling to some far away station for race gas.

I had been buying V12, unleaded and at least 100 octane.

Sorry, I hadn't put much thought into all of the variations of fuel.

You can use xylene to make "ghetto race fuel" as cam and I used to call it. Worked great in the SRT. Only downside was that it shortened the life of the plugs and gave them an orange color. I usually added some Lucas into the mix too to provide some lubrication that gets reduced due to the addition of the xylene.

Thanks, I'll do search to find the ratios.

    I'll save you a search

Xylene is rated at 116 (using R+M/2 method) octane. So if you mix 1 gallon of xylene with 2 gallons of 93 you get what I would consider a "safe" 100 octane. If I wasn't adding to existing 100+ octane in the tank, I would cut 1:1.5 for 102 octane. Then my overall mix would be somewhere right at 100 octane. I added 1/2-1 of those small bottles of lucas to the mixture and poured it into my tank. I never got kicked out of High Octane Mode on my SRT4 using 1.5:1 and only rarely on 2:1 if I didn't run the pre-existing 93 in my tank down enough (which is why I started doing 1:1.5 for that first addition to 93 only fuel).

BTW - I only have SOTP dyno to back this claim, but it seemed that ghetto race fuel had more "energy" than Sunoco's 100 octane fuel. The car just seemed "snappier" with that. The only downside if I remember right is that one of the byproducts of xylene when it combusts is benzene which is very harmful. :(

Thank you, I thought I had some Xylene but must of used it up making my concrete sealer non-VOC compliant. I only need to make a gallon for a small 2 cylinder motor I am tuning. If nothing else it will clean everything out so I appreciate the warning. Either way I'm F'd today tuning this vanguard motor to much detonation on pump gas.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier :(. Yea if you can start at an empty tank then I would just go 1:2 xylene to 93 pump gas. To 1 gallon I would probably add 3 tablespoons (or about 50mL depending on your measurement device) of Lucas just as some lubricant since xylene is a little harsh on seals. You should be able to tune like a mofo with that ratio.

If all you need is 105 or less unleaded, Torco is your best friend! Stuff works, I sell it all over the country, snow mobiles, motorcycles, race cars etc....
