need some luck - losing my job

as head soccer coach for the high school. some teacher put a bid in on the job and how the system works is if a teacher,any teacher, wants a coaching job....a non-teacher gets bumped. no matter how long they have been coaching and/or how good they are. the principal at the school tried talking the teacher out of it as he wants me to continue, but he put in his bid anyways. he (teacher) has never even watched 1 soccer game, yet thinks he is qualified to coach. i have been playing since i was 4 years old, played some travel leage since i was in 3rd grade, played 3 yrs varsity high school, and had 2 college offers. i also paid the money and took the required tests to become WVSSAC certified to coach at any level. i think im qualified. i have had 3 players contact me today after they learned of this. one of them has said they will trasnfer schools and their dad confirmed.

not only this but i have a TON of my own time into this off season, with doing 2 varsity schedules and a new jv team, as well as recruiting and fundraising. also i have a camp to run june 10-30 and i will now be doing that for free as this guy will get the $500-800 bonus for not doing anything, and he gets the benefits of me working with the next years team.

my only hope is a lot of luck and getting a petition signed and presented to the BOE and hope they will overturn the rule...if not i lose my job, the kids get a new coach who doesnt know shit about soccer, and we (me and steph) lose 2k dollars to boot.

He/she may take over the team have a total crap half-season, half the team quits, Jared gets a phone call from a school board member begging for his return. If the June training thing is for the same school, I would dump out of it. Yes it may hurt the kids, but you will probably be pretty po'd the whole time coaching it, and not be your best.

he is already the ass. basketball coach but is trying to run the school...its all politics. his wife is a teacher and on the board of govenors for the BOE....so it will be hard to get my job back...unless i beat him so bad he is a vegetable for life

that happened to my pap, he was the tennis coach at my school for about 20 years and they let him go the year i was a senior, and i was so mad i didnt play that year.. and i was the number one player and they didnt do to good.. and my pap lead us to 5 section titles in a row and a couple wpial showcases.. it sucks..

well officially i lost my job, but we still gonna make it a big fight. unless this douche does the right thing and withdraw's his bid, but he is in it for the $ not the kids.

my own boosters wont support me and here is WHY!!! i found out...

my assistant coach was going behind my back trying to take the team over. he wants to be head coach but not...he wants to run the team but not have to take responsibility for everything. we had some problems last year and i kicked a kid he liked off the team. (missed all practices but a few and came to all games) he is now working with this teacher to get me out so he can run the team, and the teacher be resposnisble for everything.

they asked me to send them my scouting reports from last year, schedules, and practice ideas. i laughed and said some mean things.

the assistant girls coached called me last night and asked me if i would take the head coach of the girls. the old coach gave it up last year. i told her steph and i had considered it. it may be good for me. to still be involved with the school, the team, be around soccer....and i probably wont have as much stress.

my other options are to go coach for 1 of 3 other local HS looking for coaches. but id only consider 2. 1 fairmont and 1 morgantown.

so thoughts?

that assistant coach sucks! you either take the position with the responsiblity or you don't take it at all! parents are going to be in for a rude awakening it sounds like. my Dad coached our soccer team in middle school. I don't know about the whole less stress with the girls team though. I would consider one of the other schools. I've played soccer since I could walk and girls tend to not use as much strategy when they play. and they are catty as all hell! if you could stay wth coaching guys I think you would like it a lot more. I always injoyed the coed teams better. guys actually play soccer as a team and use strategy. ;)

yea but i coached 4 of these girls and they are very good players....my sis has always played and i helped her for years....the other school i can go to is a rival and full of rich snobby kids and id probably go to jail for choking the shit out of them one day.

morgantown is a long drive from clarksburg everyday.

but then again im so pissed i dont know if i want to coach now. but the girls need a coach and i want to be a coach.

i am afraid of the girls not playing with some goals and just running around like sissy's

edit- my old ass coach (litterally) is a dentist so he says he cant be the head coach cause of the time commitment.

then go for it! don't let stupid people hold you back! if you want to coach, and your obviously great at it, then go for it! if you know the girls at that school, and can motivate them, then maybe it would be a good thing for you:)

true....plus they may not even have a boys team...right now have 11-13 players....with one probably not eligable, thats down to 10-12, 2 trasnferring if i lose the job....down to 8-10....11 players field a team.

that sucks for the kids. they are out a coach and team then. both my parents were in the marine corp, one year we moved to a school that didn't have a team, I ended up still playing on a league, but still, thats not fair to the kids. damn politics

i did also learn from several buisness owners in the area (meeting tonight) that my ass coach is one of the biggest backstabbers around....unfortunately nobody told me this prior to getting him hired.

ok just got off the phone with the AD....it IS STATE LAW stating a non-board emplyee (SSAC certified coach) like me can only be hired if a teacher doesnt want it. i can coach for 20 years and a new teacher can take my job...thats some BS.

steph has written some letters to the govenor as well (who happens to be from our town and his family is still living here whom we speak with regularly....heck his brother is on congress as well and is our lawyer) so we going to work on getting the law changed...however it wont happen for this year.

my only hope for coaching the boys this year is if the principal can talk the teacher out of taking the job....the AD said i can put in for the assistant and i said no thanks....im not demoting myself. especailly since i will end up running the team since this douche knows nothing about soccer... he is in it for the $$$ (since his wife writes bad checks everywhere. HAHAHA)

anyways thats my rant for the day....im waiting on a call back from principal now....if i dont get the boys ill take the girls...part of me wants the girls team now since they are actually trying to help me keep my job, players call me asking to coach and the girls assistant called me already too......so its all up in the air STILL
