    Pittsburgh Vintage Gran Prix

I just registered my car for the Mustang marque of the year show for both Saturday 7/20 and Sunday 7/21, and will be doing the parade lap prior to the race on Sunday. I have never been to this event, looks to be a well run, organized event, and I am looking forward to going.

    Anyone else planning on going?

I'll be there... wouldn't miss the PVGP for anything.

The show is on the golf course at Schenley Park. Come out Forbes Avenue and turn onto Schenley Drive... volunteers will point you to the Mustang Marque of the Year area. The last time I checked there were over 180 Mustangs pre-registered.

You definetly want to go to the PVGP website and pre-register... not required, but much much much quicker and easier!

You can learn all of that at www.pvgp.org

The Vintage Grand Prix is actually a fund-raiser operated by volunteers. They have more money left over for the Austism Society and Allegheny Valley School if they don't spend it on printing and postage.

But the website is awesome. If you're bringing a show car, take Forbes Avenue to Schenley Drive and you're 99.9% there. Volunteers will point you the last few feet. I think drive up admission is $30 per car, but I'd pre-register ASAP to make your check in easier. The show field opens at 9:30, usually the golf course is still to wet with dew to drive on before that.

Spectators can park anywhere, but Flagstaff Hill across from Phipps Conservatory might be the best bet. They'll charge you something (which all goes to the charities) but they'll give you a free shuttle ride to save you from hoofin' up the hill.

Oh, pre-registered Mustangs are up to about 240 so far!!!

(Never mind all the exotic cars that you don't normally get to see at car cruise!)

I'm already pre registered. If your going both days (sat and sun) can you leave your car there over night?

Yes. They have 24 hour security in the park... that's not to say 6 armed guards will be watching your car all night, but the park is well monitored during the event.

I leave cars there overnight every year.

That would be easy for me to just put the cover on it and leave it there.

I'll be heading out to the PVGP at PIRC(formerly BeaveRun) this evening to race at the Flashlight Drags in the Stang along with my dad n uncle in the Challenger and Tom(4.slow)!! It's pre register or drive up.

I think Ron Georege aka PaxtonShelby is out there today.

Im leaving soon... Gonna run a nondescript 6-cylinder Lincoln in the drags if we don't melt by then.

Had a great time at PittRace today. Vintage racing is so much damn fun to watch. Saw lots of SCS folks - PJ, Larry, Kevin, Bob (94Cobra), Jason (GT350), and of course gpfarrell. I'm sure I am leaving a few out. Cars looked great guys! Ran the GT in the FLD's - 1st run vs gpfarrell's hot rod Lincoln (Ecoboosted MKS ) was too close to call. I was pullin on you hard at the end buddy!! Second run vs gp didn't go so well as I blew the tires off and spent a bunch of time sideways thru 3rd. Sure was fun though! Kev got me by about 2 car lengths - all of it out of the hole. I need me some MT's! Lost by half a car to a 2009 GT500 - even at the start, had a car at 1/2 track, and he slowly reeled me in at the line. Last run was against a really nice '66 Shelby clone fastback. Won that one by a few lengths, but really a neat car and dang healthy for a 289. I confirmed that on street tires I definitely have a major wheel hop problem. I will definitely need to address that at some time down the road. But wow - what a great ( but freakin hot!!! ) day! Looking forward to Walnut Street on Monday, the Waterfront on Tuesday, and Schenley Park next weekend. Giddy up!!
2014 GT Premium - Sterling Gray Metallic - MT82 - Track Pack - Glass Roof - Recaro seats - Spoiler delete
12.76 @ 114.04 bone stock. Koni yellow coil-overs, BMR watts, LCA and LCA relo brackets, Borla S-type axle back.

1966 Coupe - 331 stroker - Bullet custom roller cam - cam and motor installed and dyno tuned by Rodeheavers Hot Rod - Astro A5 - McLeod RXT - 486 to the wheels - more fun than my little tires can handle

1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - currently NOT on jackstands

    Ron,

That was a blast! You were storming me hard as we approached the lights, but 3 unbiased witnesses all told me I won that first race. They told me this as I tucked them in bed tonight!

Traction was tough and my AWD gave me a big jump for such a short track.

    After you, I ran a '79 Z28 with a 400hp crate engine, 4-speed, and 4.11s and took him by a few lengths.

My last run was a nice 4.6 GT with a whipple and he couldn't hook either.

An AWD automatic is boring... My four-eyed car is way more fun, but I might have been 0 for 4 with it!

    See you on Walnut Street!

Great time at FLD's. Won 6 of 8. The one i'm most proud of is the new ZL1, I ran twice and beat it.

    GPfarrel, your Lincoln is sweet.
