    2014 GT500 vs 2014 Corvette

I posted this in the "B.S." thread, but thought i'd stir the pot a little more and just make its own thread... :D

The new Corvette has been getting rave reviews from everyone that has driven it thus far.... they just started being delivered this week to customers, but the mags have had their hands on pre-production cars for a couple months... I've read several magazine reviews that like the handling even better than the new 911's, and every single review has made note that the interior is no longer the Vette's crutch against cars that are 2x and 3x the price.... with the Z51 starting around $55K, its going to be a killer car at a killer price...

Livernois Motorsports just had theirs delivered yesterday, and immediately put it on the dyno...very first effort at a tune and they got 25rwhp extra .... I think the cars will be making 500rwhp with full bolt-ons...

I havent' decided if my next move (probably 1-1.5 years from now) will be a C7 or maybe something a little crazier , but if i go with the C7, I'm thinking either Laguna Blue or Artic White, with the brownstone interior (incredible looking dark brown color with suede inserts on the seats, in the doors/dash, and an alcantra headliner).... i'm not usually a white fan, but the artic white cars look amazing, and it would be a switch up since i already own a blue Vette.... If they bring back the C6's Inferno Orange, i'll be all over it... but i'll probably look for a used one.. under 20K miles, and hopefully well modded with bolt-ons, cam, etc...

Love it or hate it - you can't deny that its going to be one great performing car

    Look-out for the Z variant....

has the GT500 done better than the numbers quoted in that article for 0-60 and 1/4 mile? Edmunds got 0-60 in 4.3, but every other review i've read did it sub 4 seconds.... i believe 3.7 was the best i've seen ... don't really recall many 1/4 mile times

I've always had a hard time imagining owning a Corvette. It's been much more fun to outrun them with Mustangs and Marauders. But the reviews on the C7 have really been interesting! And not just the specs, but the feeling and overall driving enjoyment. I don't see one in my near future because the car wouldn't fit my life, but the new generation is the first series of Corvette I'd look at if I were looking for a car like that.

From everything i'm seeing, the base C7 isn't far behind a stock C6Z, if at all.... and if the new launch control and e-LSD is as good as everyone reviews it, i woudln't be surprised to see it match those numbers above on the drag strip (or come very close) - with 200hp less....
The base Z51 car has gone around Laguna Seca either as fast as, or very close to as fast as a C6Z, which is wicked fast.... there's lots of bickering online about it, and i dont' pay quite enough attention to really sort it all out, but its definitely on par

I gotta say, i'd love to wait for one, as there's lots of speculation about it being a 600+hp monster... but i'm fearful it'll be priced beyond what i'm willing to spend....i'd like to keep the Jaguar when i replace the Vette... Only way i'm selling both teh Jag and the Vette is to do something kinda silly

The new C7 will undoubtedly be quick, but I don't think it will be low 11s at almost 128 mph quick. Trapping in the high teens is much more likely with the power on tap.

I honestly don't know which car I would pick given the choice.

Good ole atco in mid november numbers. AKA shit that ain't ever going to happen at a track that isn't 4000 feet below sea level during a normal month of drag racing

For reference I went to my Drag Times calculator and pulled up the historical for that date and time and it showed -2286 DA, 106.86% relative density (33' above sea level, 32 degrees, 30.40 barometer, and 79% humidity). Damn

It ran that number, but seriously why do people get all geeked over nonsense times that are achieved in conditions that are so far out of the norm. That's the recipe to make hero times that will never be repeated at a normal track. Its the same as people icing the crap out of their cars and making hero pulls on fudged parameter dynos so they can brag about numbers that will never show in the real world on the internet. Not a mustang thing, people from every camp play that game. If bullshit numbers float your boat that's cool, but I like going to my local track with real weather conditions and watching internet racers hearts break. Lol

Plugged my time into da calculator at that da and I ran a 10.6@ 133 at atco. That means all lower pulley zl1's run at least 10.6. Time to spread the good news! Lol

it says in the article, but i think they were literally within $100 of each other... both in the mid-60's... they were both well optioned out

Well, how real world are some of the sophisticated launch controls then? The ones that require 3 menus, 2 sub menus, and some sort of Morse Code on the traction control button?

I agree that time might not be indicative of what the car normally runs but I never figured somebody's best time was ever indicative of normal.

I can only speak for the traction control modes of the zl1 and it's somewhat like that. 5 different performance modes that change power levels and sensitivity of traction control that you have to cycle through, and two modes of suspension control...or what i do at the track, hold down tc button for seven seconds and turn all that crap off. Put dr's on it and no need for it, as it only slows you down. I agree with hero times. If you can't back it up it is just a hero time, not what your car runs. That's the beauty of the auto magic in my bucket. Every pass I made the day of the 11.11 pass was within a tenth of each other. (two 11.1 and two 11.2)

The 13 GT500 we seen at PRP that ran 10.8 didn't appear to have many mods.
