Gave a 50% deposit to a company owner for a driveway back at the beginning of July. I see the guy's signs all over and he's been around for over 40 yrs, so what's the worst that could happen. "2-3 weeks after I get the deposit I'll get you in". After 3 weeks I called and he said he could probably do it 3rd week of August. Nope. We're getting towards the end of the season and no driveway. In the past two weeks I've called over 10 times, left 4 messages and not a single call back. That's a crappy way to run a business. At this point I just want the deposit back and cut my losses until the spring. It really bewilders me how some people/companies are all good til they get half, then it's a cat n mouse game. I'm planning on showing up at the office tomorrow.

He tried to take me for 5K to do a retaining wall. Tore down my old one and never came back and never showed up for court when I sued him. It took me a year and a half to find him and get my money back.

Finally on call 9 of the day he answered. He says next week, if it ain't paved by Friday he's fired. Just not the best way of doing business, especially when referrals are a huge part of that kind of work.

No, wasn't Lenny. Though that reminds of the guy my buddy hired to reset his paver patio. Think it was about a month after he 'did' the job he killed his wife. I had to go redo the patio the following year for him.

There's a ton of guys out there that are honest and fair, the couple of shady ones make it twice as hard on those honest ones. It's even worse with mechanics. I try to do all my all stunts and jobs, if it ain't right I got no one to be pissed at except myself. For the big ones I can't do I cringe with the thought of how many people I know got gipped or flat out ripped off.

I'm giving him this one last chance, he says next week. If it ain't next week, I'll be seeking my deposit back. Hoping he's just overwhelmed and busy. If he dicks me I'll definitely give his name.

Here we are over a year later with no resolution. In September he finally told me he lost his CDL due to failing a physical and that he would have to return my deposit. Great. After not getting it back, I called. again promised it would be sent. Nope. He then told me he was going to drop it off two weeks ago. Nothing. Now he won't return any calls. I went to his house today, his truck is there but he won't answer the door. I have a meeting with the local DA on Monday. Her clerk believes I have a possible criminal case because he accepted money and hasn't done any work. I'm beginning to think I'm screwed because he doesn't have the money. If I did a stunt like this I'd expect to get arrested. From what I'm finding out this is more common than most think.

Don't deal with Stinger Asphalt. Half of this is to get my money back, the other half to make sure no one else gets screwed by him.

if he lost his CDL it was probably a DUI, right? Or some other serious moving violation.

He failed a physical, he's about 80. Why he wouldn't have someone else on the payroll is beyond me.

We have the estimate and copy of cashed check.

Doesn't sound good, hope it works out. The flip side to these type stories is I'm currently filing two lawsuits for unpaid installations. One dates back to last thanksgiving. Lots of scumbags out there that want to cheat hardworking people out of their money

My experience with doing jobs is usually it is the people with money who try to Jew you down to nothing or feel entitled. Usually.

I'd like to get a hold of one of his signs and put it in the yard. Or make a nice 4'x8' sign with a nice little message, like I supported the Ray Stinger retirement fund, or I paid $2500 to Stinger Asphalt and still have this shitty driveway. I got 100's of cars going past here every day. I don't want to be on the "crazy sign in the yard" watch list.

That's as bad as my issue, just going the other way. It's theft. Plain and simple.

All of his signs are just stensel spray paint on a piece of wood. Spaired no expense lol.
