    Back up generator for home

Does anyone have a backup generator of their house? Or know anything about backup generators?? I'd like to set up a back up system to support the more necessary circuits.......fridge, freezer, heat and a few lights.

I have a backup at my house, my parents have one and we have one at the business. A friend of mine is an electrician and installs them. Basically it is a 10 gauge wire (depending on the load) from the panel to a plug on the outside of the house. Based on the size of the generator the electrician can balance the panel on the left and right not to overload it and move some breakers around to get the most out of what your generator can handle. I have a 6000 watt kubota and I am able to run the entire house minus the stove and microwave. There is an interlock kit that goes on the panel so that you don't accidentally backfeed when the power comes back on. I would never go without one again after using it several times. It is something that i would do myself if he would not have done it for free, the whole concept is not that difficult if you have done any type of basic house wiring knowledge. Here is a link to the interlock kit. Hope that helps.
