    DPF delete diesels?

    Anyone running for deletes on your newer diesels? If so, what tuner did you go with? Noticeable increase in fuel economy and power? The 6.7 in my f350 will haul everything I hook up to it with ease, but I'm ready to remove all of this emission garbage. Any advice is appreciated.

    I think wick (Rob) knows a fair amount about diesels. Someone here could probably get you in touch with him.

    I have a 2012 ram full deletes and yeah it picked up a couple mpg's

    Congrats on the pickup! Any pics?

    Are you concerned with voiding the warranty at all? Some tuners have the ability to be "untraceable" while other can still be seen on the ECU even if returned to stock. The DPF delete will get you some power and mileage but the tuner and tunes is going to do the most of that work. My advice is to do this:

    1. Straight Pipe (4" or 5", very minimal difference but 5" has deeper tone)
    2. Tuner with good tunes (I prefer KEM)
    3. EGR Delete (Sinister Delete or similar)
    4. CAI (Numerous choices here)
    5. Coolant Filter Kit (Sinister or Dieselsite, it's a good idea to switch coolant as well)
    6. KEEP UP ON MAINTENANCE! (Oil changes, fuel filter changes, additive in the tank, etc)

    I'm getting 13-14 City and close to 21 on the highway with my setup...

    Cody, thanks for all the information. I'm not concerned with the warranty. Your truck looks amazing. As much as i'd love to lift the truck, I switched all of my important trailers and livestock haulers to gooseneck. I may be hitting you up with some questions. Thanks for your help.

    What year is your truck? I started to look into doing the same on my 13 but they changed the computers in 13, not much I can do right now. The EPA has really cracked down on the diesel industry but if you can get that crap off your truck and get a good tune on it, they are totally different animals! My truck does absolutely everything I need it to do stock, other than a 50 gallon titan fuel tank, I'm just going to leave it alone for now!

    My truck is a 2011. I went into the dealership back in 2010 looking for a diesel. I was going to buy a 6.4 but the salesperson told me they were coming out with a totally new diesel and redesign in 2011. I've been going back and forth on this for a while. Like you mentioned the truck runs great as is, but I would like for it to run at its full potential. If I end up modding this thing, i'll stop by the shop and let you take it for a ride to see if its something you would want to do.

    I got a 2012 mega cab ram and have taken all the emission crap off of it. Added full 5" turbo back exhaust, Egr and cooler delete, s&b cold air kit and a smarty tuner. Best upgrades I have ever seen on any vehicle I have owned. I went from getting 15 mpg on the highway to 21. Average around 17 mpg now with everyday driving. Only running the programmer on +60 hp setting, but it makes over 900 ft lb of torque. The DPF was the biggest culprit to hindering the performance.

    They all run good and get good mileage without the emission crap IMO. You couldn't pay me to buy another GM truck but I did give a 2500 diesel RAM a solid look when I was shopping. Nice truck, loved the interior but I don't know if I want to get into all the emission delete stuff and that Cummins was a turd, wouldn't get out of it's own way, my new Ford would run circles around it! Yours feel like a turd before you modified it Ed?

    Mine did, they are even worse with a manual (which mine is) stock. Completely different now. Wouldn't own any other diesel truck.

    I figured, that's what all the delete guys say regardless of make. I just couldn't believe how much more powerful my stock Ford diesel was compared to a stock RAM diesel, night and day! Maybe I will mod at some point but honestly, the OEM Ford is pretty darn good as is. I have almost 9K miles since I purchased new on 7/24, lot of tow miles to go racing, I couldn't be happier! The only thing that has to be done regardless is the little OEM fuel tank, 50 gallon Titan is a must!

    Mike, turd would of been an understatement! Runs like a friggin raped ape since doing the mods. Best part was it cost under $1,400 to make all of the changes. Best money EVER spent of vehicle mods. Haven loaded the +200 hp tune yet to see what it feels like. They say you can cook the stock tranny very quickly with it.

    I went the other was as you, was looking at a F250 King Ranch 3 hours before I bought my Dodge. The Mega Cab was really what sold me on it. Oh and the almost $14k less I got it for vs the Ford.

    Mega cab is originally why I started looking at the RAM, my F150 had more crew cab room than my new F250 does, not by much, but enough for me to notice that pizza boxes don't fit as easily as I was used too! I have many friends with the dpf delete on 6.4's getting over 20 mpgs and pull like a freight train, I know this truck would do the same if I get to that point. There were huge incentives when I looked at the RAM which is what got the wheels turning, I ended up getting $12K off sticker when I finally purchased my new Ford, I was certainly cool with that!

    Fwiw the Ram doesn't seem to be happy until a trailer is hooked up to it. Even stock the truck is unreal with weight behind it, deleting the truck just makes it that much better.

    ViperEd, I wouldn't go much above 100hp for any length of time. Trans mainly, but the turbo is also too small for much above that. The 68re is pretty stout at close to stock power levels, the '11 company truck I had had 100K oilfield pounded miles on it grossing up to 36K day in day out.

    +60 hp setting is where it will stay at. No real need for any more. Runs Great. May only crank it all the way up for a few mile drive to see what it does.

    That is the setting I usually have mine at, although I have had it down to SW1 40hp (I have a Jr.) for a while. Fuel economy was better on the 60hp setting, only briefly had it on the 100hp.

    Amazing how the EPA and their clean air act enforcement of catilist systems on diesels do the exact opposite of what their intent was. Rittle me this...a diesel which doesn't emit as much exhaust pollutants as a gas motor gets 14/15 mpg with the EPA crap on..... then over 20 with it removed. So which is worse for the environment. The government isnt making the right decision.... weird!

    Anyway - rip that crap off and tune! If you're an 11-12 tuning is easy to find. 13s aren't fully cracked yet to my understanding.
