Yep - the local stores charge over $500. I found it for $304 plus $30 core and $25 shipping from rock auto.com.

Thanks for the update on the truck Ron.....I am still in the market for a crew cab...just not sure which generation.

The old ones cost as much as the new ones now...prices have sky rocketed over the last 2 years.

BTW was your box a rebuilt one or new one?

Hi John - I believe the box I ordered is a new one. I checked everywhere and reman units are completely out of stock. Some place out west called RedBox sells high quality rebuilt units, but they are $450+ core ($250) plus shipping (38 pounds?). Here is the part I ordered...

How did you conclude that? The beginning of what you posted is "Reman" (Remanufactured).

I think Red Head Steering Gears is the place out west you are thinking of. Thats where I got mine from. 38 pounds...If it fits it ships. USPS both ways... The lady at the post office almost broke her back picking it up to put on the scale... I told her it was heavy...

The guys at the local stores all said the part number ending with an "N" designated a new part, & it was about $250 more than their reman units without the trailing "N" in the number. But I see your point & I honestly don't know. This unit does say it has upgraded parts in it ( upgraded piston design ). So ???

Well - after the steering box went in the truck was due for inspection. Ouch in a big way! She needs upper and lower ball joints on both sides, a passenger lower tie rod, rear backing plates, e-brake shoes and hardware, rear axle seals, and rotors and pads all around. Summit saved me a pantload of cash compared to the local stores. But I still have over $900 in parts...all good stuff - no cheap brake parts to stop this beast!!...and that doesn't include the steering box. The rear tires were about shot, so I had 2 of the extra tires that came with the truck mounted and balanced.

The GT has been pulling DD duty the last few weeks. I was sweating bullets today when the severe storms blew thru...along with the chance of hail.

Almost 90k John. My buddy is doing the work - the truck is too tall to fit in my garage, so I'm paying for this labor...

The odd thing is that the brakes hadn't felt too bad. No squeaks or grinding or pulsing or pulling. But they sure looked bad when I pulled the wheels! But something tells me it will stop a lot better once the new rotors and Hawk pads are on there.

Damn Ron, your gonna have a brand new truck if you replace anymore parts. As much as I hate to say it my 05 Silverado I bought a few months ago has been a great truck. Even the gas mileage has been great.

P.S. No, There is not a Camaro in my future.
