Do you mean shifting like a tractor (18 wheeler) with out using the clutch while driving normally? If it's done right and not grinding I don't think it hurts anything. It's a little harder to downshift a car like that than a truck, but upshifting seems pretty easy. Just my 2 cents. Other people may have different opinions.

It can't be good for the syncros..... unless you're really good at RPM matching.

That said, I do do it on occasion just for amusement...

True, but I have used the skill before to get home with a broken clutch cable!

    Sure I did!

Pop it into neutral, coast to stop, turn off engine, start engine in gear.

Granted I was lucky to not be on an uphill grade! ;)

no real point, but i recently started driving big trucks with unsynchronized trannys and you can either double clutch or not use the clutch. an old trucker taught me how to "properly" not use the clutch and so i tried it in my car. as long as you can match your road speed to your rpm for that specific gear i dont see why it would cause any harm because everything lines up. but like Pacefever said, what if you install one of those cheap aftermarket clutch cables and it breaks? if you know how to do it, you are (potentially) good. if not, you are calling the tow truck...

I did have a clutch cable snap once on the '66. So I had to start it in gear and limp it home - second gear all the way. My starter probably didn't like it - but it was better than a 2 hour wait for a AAA flatbed. Still - if nothing is broken, there is no point in doing this to your tranny.

Lol, try street driving my dog ring trans. It's just like a non synchro truck trans, a little practice and it's as smooth as anything ... Except that one time when you dont get it right and it sounds like it exploded, lol. Wouldn't ever go back for how well it shifts at WOT.

Synchros slow the mating gear if you use the clutch or not. You aren't hurting anything
