Question 4.6 2V Trick Flow Track Heat lower intake???

thoughts / opinions??? It just dawned on me that my '01 has the plastic crossover on the front of the lower manifold. Ford switched over to the aluminum crossover in mid '01. Well, this car didn't make the cut, so it MIGHT crack at some point. So my options are a stock PI intake ($250) with aluminum crossover, Bullitt ($1200???), a few crazy high-rpm items like Reichart and Fox Lake and this Trick Flow that just came out ($800???)

Take a look at the pictures of the stocker and the Trick Flow. It seems to me that the engine would be able to suck more air through that big hole right in the middle of the stocker. On the Trick Flow, look where the upper portion enters the back of the intake. It looks like it's only about 1" thick and there are two 90* bends before the air enters the main portion of the intake. School me on why the one that looks overly restricted would flow better... or is supposed to flow better? It does look cool, though!!!

    1. if it breaks
    2. 7 years from 1st date of warranty (so theoretically I got until June '08)
    3. Ford will replace it for FREE if you don't have any MODS.

Besides, I'd rather spend $180 or even $250 and DO IT MYSELF than have those slugs strip the holes, switch up my throttle/cruise cables, scratch the fenders, get grease on the floor mats... and a whole slew of other bad things that happen to me at the dealer.

The Trickflow intake is similer to the Bullet intake. It would be ok for an NA motor but would probably work best with a poweradder. I am looking at that intake myself.

Like was said in an earlier post it's a close copy of the bullitt intake. The main difference is you'll be able to use your stock alternator, and your stock throttle body. If the opening on the back is the same as the bullitt, then it should be about the same size if not a little bigger than of the opening in the center of the plastic intake. One thing to consider is I only gained about 5hp from going to a bullitt intake when I was N/A. So if you don't ever plan on going with a blower, I'd replace the plastic intake if you ever need to. But I do agree I like the look of the aluminum intake under my hood!!

Ford 5.0 Magazine did a review of it this month. It's too new to find online. Anyway, the numbers are in dispute over at Modular Depot and Stangnet and I'm sure a few other sites. Peak to Peak, the numbers were real close, like you said, Chris, but at like 2,500 the TFS was something insane like 100HP higher than the stocker with not much more torque. The numbers looked way whack to me, then after seeing the debates on the other forums, I don't think I'll spend $600 more for 5hp and/or questionable hp under the curve and cool looks. MMFF is supposed to do a test on it next month, so we'll see what they come up with.

It is nice to see some new parts on the market for us 2V suckas.

EDIT: I just found the article in the magazine. It looks as thought they just really screwed up the baseline numbers. The baseline Torque and Horsepower numbers are almost identical through the rev-range which makes no sense. The Trick Flow numbers look to be about 20ft lbs more in the lower revs and 20hp more in the upper revs compared to other stock graphs, so it might be a deal, but I'll have to see some more testing.

That's the Typhoon intake that you hear alot of bad talk about online. It makes anywhere from the exact same hp to less and this is on superchagered cars. I'd still stay with the stock plastic intake...lighter, cheaper, and won't heat soak.
