    Ckutch Recommendations for 03 Cobra?

I know I could search SVTP or similar all day and find results, but I want some local opinions. I need to replace the TOB in my car and gonna have the clutch done while I'm at it. I don't know what is currently in the car but I like the way it engages/feels.

Anyone have recommendations on something that isn't a pain to drive in traffic and is good for maybe up to 500 HP? Car is all stock at the moment.

    Thanks!

I had a Zoom clutch kit in my first Fox and loved it. It lasted and performed much better the Ford Motorsport (sold car before clutch ever died).

Mcleod twin disc, I have the rxt in mine. You can slip it when needed and it doesnt mind it. And has the lightest pedal pressure ever. And will easily support anything you plan on doing in the future.

i dunno about for mustangs, but a McLeod twin for anything i've ever owned has been around $1,800+........ definitely the best choice, but don't think you'll find it for under $950

I've got a Spec Stage 3+ in my Vette and its a great clutch.... its probably not as friendly as some clutches out there, but it will hold more power than many of the ones that are VERY brutal ..... its the same clutch i had in my twin turbo Trans Am and it held up very well... 1000 ft lbs rating

when I had one I used centerforce and so did my friends who had terminators

I think you would be ok with the lm version that most used ( I used a dfx but that was not to street friendly )

American Muscle has them for around $936... and again, we're talking a stock 03 Cobra that will, more than likely, remain that way. I really don't want or need to spend $1000+ for a 1,000 HP clutch.

I was looking at the Exedy clutches, they seem pretty reasonable price wise.

I have a McLeod RXT waiting to go into my '66. It allows me to keep my flywheel, so the kit was "only" $909 shipped. It is good to 1000 hp, which is way beyond what my block and tranny will ever handle. Glad to hear others love it!

The RST model is a few hundred $ cheaper, but will not survive any drag racing despite its 700 hp rating.

For a single disc unit I would think Centerforce would be a safe bet.

I have a Centerforce in the T-bird. Not a high horsepower vehicle but the clutch works great.

Before I went with the rxt I had a centerforce dfx. It seemed to have no issue with holding the power, But was a very stiff pedal and really didnt have much feel to it. Wasnt a fan for that reason.

Definetly agree with this. I was shocked how light the pressure was when he first got it. it seems like all the cobra guys down here run the McLeod twin disc and if that doesn't work they usually auto swap it.

Come on greg, cobra guys no matter what they say always end up going with a twin screw or turbos. Then its the right clutch for the job. I even remember you tellin me about possible going with a tvs blower. Plus a twin at his power level would probally never require him to do a clutch job on the car again

I have a spec stage 3+ in my cobra as well. From what I remember it had a nice feel to it. While you are in there I would recommend doing the 26 spline input shaft too.

I used promotion when I replaced my clutch. I think my car made 470 on the dyno and is mostly stock aside from bolt ons and a tune. If you call them, they will help you decide on the proper clutch based on what you are going to do. Rather than calling a salesman and having them read descriptions, these people work with and specialize in manual transmissions and stand behind there products. I am not saying that the big companies aren't good, but it is hard to beat a personal service like I got from these guys rather than a company that sells everything from clutches to billet gas caps. They have received a ton of good feedback on other forums including svtperformance and the clutch that I put in my termi has a super soft pedal and is very street friendly as well. Scroll down to the Ford 11" clutch and that is the one that they recommended. It was $289 and well worth it. It is a father son business and they will help you.

I hear good things about the spec 3+, and not so great of things about just the 3. Some say there is chatter if you stay with the aluminum stock flywheel, Others say they dont hear a thing. Some do swtich to a steel flywheel as well.

It's been 3+ years of ownership on a stock blower stock pulley car... There is something cool about still having an untouched motor.

Any real benefit of spending the cash aside from handling additional power?

Edit: Did some research on the ProMotion stuff and definitely seems like unanimously good reviews and in the price range I like. Any recommendations on using resurfaced flywheel vs. new? Car has 75k miles, 13k of which I've added and they're very easy miles. Plus I want it back up and running, not sitting all summer so I can save up cash for a big clutch and supporting mods for power I don't plan on making.

Might be a good idea to try to catch a ride in some members' cars?
