why do people think oil changes are a joke??

just had a 4.7 dakota come in for an oil change... mech drained it and went to put oil in and the valve cover filled up and wouldnt even drain into the motor because of all the sludge

then a few months ago a year old durango comes in with 25k on it with engine noise and still had the original filter and never been serviced once since bought new..... saw it when toredown and you couldnt even recognize half the parts they were so covered in hard sludge.... i just dont understand it

I do mine once a month no matter what. Oil is cheap, motors are not.

Pull my dipstick anytime and you will see clean brand new oil. I worked on an F-150 two summers ago. It was an '86, first year for EFI. I could not get the oil filter off. When I pulled the valve covers to change the gaskets, there was so much sludge in the heads, I cant describe it. Turned out, he had not changed the oil in over 10 years. There was only 35K on the truck.

I used to have a boss that was a real jackass with his company car. Every time I got in his car and looked at the sticker, it was 2-3K miles overdue. All he had to do was drive downtown and get it done. The company has an account at the lube joint. It takes 20 minutes and it's free. WTF?

We were drinking one time and he actually told me at his old job he had a Chevy Celebrity as a company car. Well, he never got the oil changed (just like above) and at 25K it started making engine noises. Apparently, the motor was shot. He admitted that they made him use his personal car after this and his co-workers referred to him as "Mr. Goodwrench" from that day on.

As a Tech I can't tell you how important it is to change your oil regularly. BEST THING YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR CAR!!!!! which kinda makes me wonder how BMW is now on a 35,000 mi. service interval??? yeah they use Castrol full synthetic, but still? I can't think castrol is THAT great!!

My F-150 burns three quarts in 4000 miles so I just spin a new filter on every 4k, haha. My old '91 Civic burnt a quart every tank of gas, it got the 'never change, only swap the filter' treatment too.

Of course the F150 has almost 200k on it and the Civic was well over 200k. My '94GT and '96 Civic get better treatment than that, and the 2000 mile '03 Ninja gets the oil changed more than it gets ridden, it seems!

Oil Change Is The Cheapest And Probably The Most Important Thing To Do Do For Your Motor. That Just Shows How "cheap" And "lazy" Some People Are.

    as an FYI

Synthetic oils do NOTHING for your motor, dont last longer, and have nothing special to them no mater what they say. I took an oil class, yeah, where they teach us about oils/fluids and why to change, and what to do with them etc etc. but, That Mobil1 5000... It doesnt do jack, you still get the same amount of contaminants in it, that will still be harsh on your engine... The only way to lengthen the oil change is to ADD more oil. Which is why Diesels can go so long. I only run Synthetic in my Cobra for the DOHC heads. The Synthetic can get up there easier to lubricate, which is the ONLY Advantage to Synthetic oils, they flow easier at cold temps.

But either way... I Dont Know how people can even attempt to go that long on an oil change. I drove my cobra 2300 miles home, changed the oil, drove it another probably 2000 miles and parked it. When i get it out for the summer (damn California) then it will get changed before i start driving it.

"Every 3,000 miles or 3 months" Oil does get old... And some places even recycle the oil for REUSE, remove contaminants and replenish additives.

I too know a guy who is 21 now, and he cant change his own oil, doesn't know how, and no desire to either. I think he went 10,000 on an oil change, without even checking it. His 4cyl Ranger isnt the happiest soul right now...
