How much noiser could the gears get if fluid level is possibly low? I have small leak but not sure if it's fluid level or I ate another set of gears last pass. Going to yank cover Saturday.

On decel mostly and it's ugly.
It was always a tad noisy (Richmond gears) as I tried many times to get them quiet. It didn't do it two weeks ago when I last ran the car. Rear is leaking somewhere. I know one spot weld weeps. It was one re-welded when tubes were welded a few years ago. I had a small puddle that ran behind one slick. It didn't seem like a lot but I dunno now.
I have 4.10 gears to put in if I broke the pinion again.

I've heard that the quality of Richmond gears has dropped in recent years and that it is almost impossible for them to be quiet.

Could be they were too tight and wore out pinion bearing. That's what my poor lil 10bolt does
Got to track today and ripped it apart. Took off 2 teeth from ring gear. About 3/4 of them was snapped off. Both side by side. Finished tearing it completely apart and put in a set of Ford Motorsports 4.10's. Impact gunned pinion nut until pinion didn't turn and backed it off until my highly calibrated arm gave it the go ahead. Using solid spacer/shims instead of crush sleeve. Did backlash by feel as I had nothing to do this right too.
Sucker is super quiet. Got it together and straight into lanes to make a pass. Quiet down track and coming back down return road. No noise on accel or decel

Good job! Track fixes are the best times . I've been meaning to ask u are u interested in the set of aerospace brakes I have for sale . I want them gone and I can give good deal to a racer .
Way braver than me Ed .... I couldn't imagine me throwing one together like that then making a pass on it.
I agree with John, Bob. You and Ed are both crazy!
What you guys do to parts...
LOL......good stuff right there.
(BTW - most ppl fix their stuff BEFORE arriving at the track!)

Really, rear gears scare me, some voodoo going on in there ;)
It's 15 -20 minutes from home to the track ... .at least twice Frank and I have started a transmission swap after diner (5:30 ish), got it together and took it on a test / break in drive to PRP to run test and tune :D But all of those had at least 20 miles on it before abuse :D :D
My favorite of all time was when we put the dog ring transmission in, car ran good that night :D
The industry calls it durability test ... or maybe they just call it "profits"??
