Since getting this new job I've been able to drive the T-bird and Ranger to work quite a bit. The TB is the DD and the Ranger gets driven about once a week. Quite often I've left the office and found someone from the maintenance staff circling one of my rides. Then they start asking questions but not really listening...you can tell they just want to brake into a story to tell me about their old hot rod from "back in the day" and how fast it was.

Just last week I was told about a late '70's Camaro with a 454 that launched SO HARD it would drag the bumper.....on stock tires and on the street. I told him that was quite impressive....then asked what ET and MPH it ran at the track.....he proclaimed with 100% confidence that though it was never to the track, it went at least low 11's.

Another time one of the fellas told me about his late '60's GTO and how fast it was. He informed me that it went 11 seconds BONE STOCK with STOCK tires and a four speed.

The very next day another guy told me about an early Bronco he had......302 and an automatic w/ a shift kit. It would also lift the front tires.

I usually just nod my head and say "Wow....that's mighty impressive".....while hoping for the conversation to end.
