    Hot rod tall tales

Since getting this new job I've been able to drive the T-bird and Ranger to work quite a bit. The TB is the DD and the Ranger gets driven about once a week. Quite often I've left the office and found someone from the maintenance staff circling one of my rides. Then they start asking questions but not really listening...you can tell they just want to brake into a story to tell me about their old hot rod from "back in the day" and how fast it was.

Just last week I was told about a late '70's Camaro with a 454 that launched SO HARD it would drag the bumper.....on stock tires and on the street. I told him that was quite impressive....then asked what ET and MPH it ran at the track.....he proclaimed with 100% confidence that though it was never to the track, it went at least low 11's.

Another time one of the fellas told me about his late '60's GTO and how fast it was. He informed me that it went 11 seconds BONE STOCK with STOCK tires and a four speed.

The very next day another guy told me about an early Bronco he had......302 and an automatic w/ a shift kit. It would also lift the front tires.

I usually just nod my head and say "Wow....that's mighty impressive".....while hoping for the conversation to end.

You have to watch out for 1/8 mile racers, they will confuse you :D

As someone with a somewhat unique car, you can't imagine the things i'm told even in somewhat "car friendly" surroundings ....

My favorite conversation follows the lines of "how fast is it", I tell them, they come back with wow that's pretty good for a 4 banger, then proceed to tell me about their uncle / cousin / step daddy hooptie and how it was recalled for to much power and not being street legal, then go into why don't I put a V8 in there and go fast :D

Joe was there for this one, guy said oh this one of those Caprices? I said, nah there is only one so it's a Capri, if there was more than one we would have Caprices ... guy said oh thanks and walked away ... Joe almost swallowed his tongue ...

Was leaving a cruise, guy comes up to me and asked what kind of tail lights I had on my Mustang. I said they are Capri lights. He said, nice job on making those fit and look so nice ... (Said while looking at the back of my car with my license plate "Capri RS").

Always someone lifting the front end, $50 bills on dash boards, recalled because not street legal, and just about 2/10th faster than WHATEVER you tell them you ran. The only salvation is when someone really gets it. We was at Quaker City and a guy there wanted to hug my car for some reason.

You need to meet up with Joe and see his "car cruise" walk past our cars ....

We are planning on riding out to a cruise sometime...just not made it happen yet. I'm sure it will be a good times.

    Caprices = awesomeness!
I've gotten the same stories, wheels up for yards and yards on launches, "you couldn't get that $20/$50/$100 bill off the dash when I nailed the gas", along with "you got the 442 motor?" or worse, "Nice Chevelle"

You wouldn't believe how many times I've heard my Marauder, like all Marauders, was "supercharged straight from the factory"... I just step away from the vehicle!

I get this all of the time especially in my old 56 ford wagon... the person always had a relative that had one just like it. By the end of their story i figure out that that it was a 1984 Oldsmobile.

I also get led on a lot of wild goose chases when people see me in my Model A Roadster. You wouldn't believe how many times at a gas station or store that people come up and tell me that they know of someone who has the exact car in a barn, shed, etc. Me, loving the chase almost always follow up on them only to be disappointed. I've probably have been told of 10 Deuce coupes sitting and rotting only to find out that they 4 door Plymouth sedans.

And the stories of how fast cars are is just ridiculous... especially of other car guys. It cracks me up of how many 10 second, wheel standing street cars there are. I must not know where to look!

Number 1 the guy at Quaker wanted to do more than hug your car and number2 I can't wait til you get back the walk needs a little practice. I will never forget a guy that wanted to race me and I asked if he ever ran at the track before and he said no but he did practice at Dave and Buster.

I personally get a lot of weird looks with my car. Cobra front bumper, massive intercooler.
I have had people literally count the cylinders on the motor before. So much confusion.

But I think my favorite story is from a few weeks ago. I was in sheetz, and overheard this guy talking about his fiat abarth. White with a "got boost?" Sticker on the back window.
He claimed about how he was beating a z06 doing 180. Claimed that the car went tens. Then his buddy proceeded to tell me about how he had a friend with a mustang that went 7s.

I got my food, shook my head, and smacked boost out of the parking lot lol

Get Alot of that in the neon.. to this day some people really believe that a v8 is swapped in it. hey man that sounds badass, what's in it? "Just a 2.4 neon motor" yea right man seriously what's in it?

And it seems every cop that has ever pulled me over when I was in one of my cars is he had one just like it or he remembers back in the day he acted like me and blah blah blah.

A guy at work asked if I had a "full cam" in the Ranger. I just said "I sure hope so".

Home late Friday night but not likely to be much car action for me on my short "visit" home.
