    PA branded Antique title

So my F100 came back with an antique title, can I run a classic plate on it without a title change? (Or regular plate for that matter)

I didn't register it obviously because it's winter and it needs some TLC

You will have to send the title in for a classic plate for sure. I don't know about the regular plate. You may even have to send it back in to get an antique plate.

You must run antique. If you want classic buy the plate and your title and plate come back (title will now say classic). If you want a regular plate, same deal...you will get a new title not noted classic or antique.

yea its dumb and we didnt need to do that in the past. Now you must - I kicked and screamed but its the pen dot system now.

if you apply for a classic or antique plate, do they automatically change your title too?

John.... I have done a hand full each year. 2014 is the FIRST year I have seen this happen where the title code MUST match the plate. Its dumb.
IE.... I had a Galaxie I didnt plan on driving. Just built it then was going to flip it. The title was in my name and had a C code for classic. At the last minute I was going to have my dad drive it to All Ford Carlisle. I went to get a plate....no go. Couldnt issue one because they had to send away for the classic. Unless I wanted pay all the fees for a new title etc. The fees are not bad but I was already paying for 4 of my cars to be out there. Any extra was just pissing me the hell off! haha

so the only time that you get a classic or antique branded title is when you have an antique or classic plate....and this only started in 2014?

I have 5 vehicles that qualify as antique and not one has a classic or antique title....

Out of those 5, only 1 has a classic plate - which I got 15 yrs ago. I am almost positive it too, does not have a specific antique/classic title.

What's the deal with nighttime driving on antique? I know PA lightened up on some of the restrictions.

Can't drive at night only if your car doesn't have the necessary "modern" lights. Like a '35 Chevy coupe only has one taillight on the driver's side.

Since so much has changed recently regarding PA plate rules, you might want to go ask someone at AAA. Those folks usually know their stuff.

I just switched a few cars to Antique Plates. My understanding is...

    1) One time registration
    2) No Inspection (Classic plates still require inspection)
    3) Okay to commute to work with once a week (as if somebody is counting!)
    4) Fine to drive at night as long as it has lights... basically what Paxton said
    5) Always okay to drive car-related events

It's saving me a lot of grief in filling out registration forms (sounds silly, but policy numbers, expiration dates, odometer readings, multiplied by several cars gets stupid fast) and getting new windshield stickers on cars that barely get 1,000 miles a year.

Also, PA seems to no longer require photos to obtain antique plates. I needed them in 2011 but not this spring.
