    What would you do

I have an opportunity to take a new job in a manager's position. I have worked at my current place for 25 years. I am maxed out on what I can make. The new job pays the same, but there will be performance bonuses and I will not be doing physical labor as much. On one hand I have some job security where I am. On the other side there is potential for growth at the new job. The guy trying to hire me says there is job security there as well and there may be, but he is trying to hire me. Both businesses have been around for 25 plus years plus. If I was younger there would be no question that I would take the chance. Being in my mid 40's I am not so sure. Opinions?

I recently changed jobs after 12yrs. Initially the money is a bit more, security is the same, there are annual bonuses at the new job but it REALLY cut my travel....from 300-800 miles per week to 150. The old job had more salary left in it before I max'd but my new max is TWICE the other job.

Move up. The older you get the more you'll want to save your body for your self not your employer. Good luck!

Make the move, it sounds like it has a lot of positives, and even with your current situation nothing is never a definite thing.

If you are truly allowed to manage, and you have the aptitude for that position, do it! If its a management position where you have to be on the puppet strings of your higher ups, stay away from it!

And as a manager you cannot be afraid to piss people off but also have to walk a fine line between upper and lower staff. Will you be managing any type of union personnel? That's where I found managing to be tough. I've worked in and out of unions. In both organizations I've found unions exist to protect the weak......

No strings with the exception that if I want to get rid of current long term employees I would have to okay that.

Non union. I don't know if I could deal with a union. I would not want to deal with employees who don't produce, especially lazy ones who know the union will protect them.
