    tremec t56 magnum

I have a 09 mustang gt with a turbo and I've noticed that now that I'm making more power the stock transmission is very hard to shift so when i was at world of wheel i seen the tremec booth there and they had a t56 magnum xl and i was wondering if anyone has bought one and how they like it and is it worth the money

I have one and it's pretty nice. I have the regular magnum and not the xl, but I can say it's much better than the standard T56. The only thing don't like is the shifter. There may be better aftermarket options for the xl, but not many good options for mine.

What kind of power do you make? What are you looking to do with the car? I have a magnum in mine and I am pushing the limits. Doesn't miss a beat. I have nothing but good things to say about it.

    tremec t56 magnum

He's making 407 hp, 450 lb ft to the tires. The only difference between the magnum and the magnum xl, is the xl is extra long, for s197 cars. His car shifted super smooth before the power upgrade.

407 isn't much at all really and shouldn't effect that trans. I'll bet he has a fatigued fork causing the hard shifting.

I am with the guys on this. At your power level something else is going on.

Is this only happening when the trans is cold after its been ran hard a few times? Not sure it you are having the same issue but this was what helped me... The T-56 that was in my Cobra started shifting funny when I had the 2.2 Kenne Bell (600rwhp). After a fluid change with the addition of GM syncro shift it was 100% better. I wasn't missing shifts, the trans just refused to slide into gears at high RPM. I would move the stick for the next gear and it was like hitting a wall until the rpms dropped.

Do you have a local member that has a t-56? They might be able to take a look at it and give you some ideas. I know the T-56 in general are pretty notchy feeling. I had a built WC t-5 that I had in a car prior to the Cobra and it shifted silky smooth next to my Cobra with only 9k on the clock at the time. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed with the shifting from day one but made a few changes that helped. The fluid change plus the AGW shifter did help the feel.
I hope you get it figured out because I know personally how big of a pain these issues are.

My t56 magnum is not notch at all. Smooth as silk. Great trans if you want to upgrade. I agree with wick. Something else is going on. 400hp can't be that bad for it. Is it hard to shift in all gears?

    This

Plus the t56 and t56 magnum have nothing in common other than the name. The magnum is a 6060. Can't wait to get mine in my car since my cobra ate it's t56.

Juice are we talking about a TR-3650 trans? If so it has
    a torque rating of 360 lb-ft & I don't think that's to the
    wheels. I have a Liberty Gear modded T- 56 Magnum &
it is so very sweet. 700 lb-ft rating.

its notchy when just driving normal but when I get on it it seems to be really hard at high rpms I was thinking it was the tranny because the shift don't drop straight into the trans it on like a linkage where the t56 magnum has the shifter directly in the transmission
