If it looks good, you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. If it's marketed right, you'll buy it. But if it's real, you'll feel it. IG: @donuttrump
I got a day to work on my car. First thing I needed to refurb my vise, as it has taken a lot of abuse over the years. After that I got the wastegat return plumbed back into the downpipe. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing the turbo again and not just the loud wastegate dump.
I used a Vibrant v-band flange for the dump return, and man is it nice! The two parts have matching machined male and female rings so they positively mate perfectly every time. That helped tremendously keeping a handful of unjoined parts lined up. I also used a Vibrant "bellows" style flex pipe; also a beautiful piece. Way better quality than the typical braided liner. I picked both up from a turbo group on facebook for cheap. I'm not sure I'd shell out the $ to buy them directly from Vibrant. Both are pretty expensive!
I also got the 3" inlet mocked up. The 4" flex hose is no more. Now it is 3" aluminum pipe. I just need to secure it some way then that will be done. Only the hot side intercooler pipe is left.

I love living boosted life vicariously through this build.
I've had a change of plans for myself and I'm on the lookout for a pair of GTX3071Rs. If you have any laying around let me know! :)
The GTX2871R is on and running. I determined I need to put a stronger spring in the BOV due to lean bogs between shifts. With the BOV unhooked (always closed) it doesn't happen at all.
The boost comes on smooth and fast with the new turbo. It's a surprisingly quiet. Quieter than the previous garrett GT2871R I had on before. On just the 17psi wastegate the 235's spin easily.
Even though the Focus is for sale, I still plan on driving it and racing it if I get the chance. I certainly haven't lost the love for the car. It's still a blast to drive!

he pistons, the rods, the rings, the fuel injectors, the ecu, your o2 sensor, intake, exhaust, make sure that the turbo kit comes with all the piping you need for the intercooler. If you're looking at a kit from eBay, it does NOT have the parts you need.
Might also need an upgraded fuel pump. May be other things.
The engine isn't designed for turbo use...so, you need to make it that way.
The Focus is running great with the GTX2871R. It personally think it's a perfect match for this 2.0L. I love having my lower RPM spool back. Full boost by 4K and pulls like a monster to 7K. I haven't run it over 7K yet, but the data logs suggest it would continue to flow. I also believe my spark issue is gone; fixed by the colder plugs.
The car is for sale, but I'm going to continue to enjoy it while I have it. If nobody buys it I won't be heartbroken, but it would be nice to have the space in my garage. I'll probably sell the Mustang if I can't sell the Focus.
I hope to head back to the drag strip this weekend or next.
A few new photos
One with my buddy's Fusion at church. (Not staged. He doesn't even know I took it.)
A few videos of the car.
